I think the Leafs can make a better offer than the Flames for the 1st overall pick and I hope that they do. Don't get me wrong, I like Ekblad, but I think Calgary would have to give up too much to get him.

That and the fact Calgary doesn't really have the assets - the ones they do have they really shouldn't move, because they're bare after that

With all this talk of Florida's pick being in play, there are plenty of rumo(u)rs that Buffalo's pick may also be available. If you think that Sam Reinhart could be a Jonathan Toews type of centre down the road, it might be worth it to try to move up (swapping #4 for #2 shouldn't take all that much of a package to get it done).

I'm curious if the Islanders would be interested, so that they can pair Sam with Griffin

Vancouver doesn't need Ekblad, they already have Ed-ler-bad.

Gotta think all these teams shopping the first few picks drives the value down on all of them. Are teams just not that excited about these players? Some of these teams need game changers and yet they're still shopping the picks?

There's not any sure things after Aaron Ekblad in all honesty, these teams who are really bad might be looking for multiple players or multiple assets because those teams need more than just one player, and the pressure on all of those teams to start winning now after all these bad seasons is real high

I think some teams should keep the picks but I can see why they're entertaining offers

i think they are just trying to drum up interest incase anyone is willing to overpay.
Snow's line about looking for help immediately is horseshit, as they are nowhere near ready to contend

I've gotta disagree there. I don't think they're in position for a deep Cup run or anything, but with anything even approaching average goaltending last year and a full year from Tavares I think that team is right in position to make the playoffs, and I see both of those problems as pretty much fixed this year. When you're dead last in the league in SV% you're pretty much fucked, but that's also a much easier problem to quickly fix than general ineptitude spread throughout the lineup (and coaching staff if you've got Randy).

The curious case of controversial NHL prospect Joshua Ho-Sang | SIMMONS | Hockey

I asked a chief scout with a late pick in the first round whether he would select Ho-Sang if he was available, and without hesitating, he answered no.

When I asked why, he said there are certain criteria his organization values, “and if I picked him, my scouts would all revolt. He doesn’t fit what we’re looking for.”

Said Ho-Sang, in a lengthy interview: “If I was a general manager and had first pick in the draft, I’d pick me No. 1 ... In three years, I’ll be the best player in this draft. And I have no doubt about that. I know myself. I know the other players. I believe in my ability. There are guys ranked ahead of me who are nowhere near me.

“I’m not concerned about the draft (and where I’m picked). I know what’s being said out there. I know people’s skepticism. I’m prepared for that.”

Ho-Sang does wonder if in a very white hockey world, he isn’t looked upon differently because of his colour.

He had some difficulties with his general manager, Warren Rychel, and others in Windsor and worries about what has been said about him.

“I think colour definitely plays a factor in perception,” said Ho-Sang.

“People watch my games and are very critical. When I start dangling, my GM calls me a Harlem Globetrotter. Why am I a Harlem Globetrotter? Analogies get related to basketball all the time with me. I don’t play basketball. I’ve never played basketball. I’m a hockey player. Why are they doing that?

“When I do anything, I’m just another black kid with attitude. I think I get misunderstood because these guys want to figure me out without talking to me and try to come up with every single reason why there’s something wrong with me.

Iread a story in the Windsor star today that pointed out that this entire hubbub was caused by shithead Simmons cherry picking some quotes to invent controversy.
Globetrotter was not a racial inference, it was that he didn't play north-south hockey often enough.

Chalk another one up for Simmons
/are there any Asian Globetrotters?

Changes to the NHL Draft Lottery were voted in on Thursday by the league's Board of Governors.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, the league still needs to confer with the National Hockey League Players' Association before they become official.

The league has proposed smoothing or compressing the odds among the 14 non-playoff teams for the 2015 draft and then increasing the number of selections determined by the lottery in 2016.

The NHL's general managers met in New York during the Stanley Cup Final and at that time, Sabres general manager Tim Murray told LeBrun that potential new changes would not take effect in time for next year's highly anticipated 2015 Draft that will feature Connor McDavid
