I'm guessing you guys didn't like football 3-5 years ago? Did you guys just become fans last yr? The reason they were not mad at Bush because they know he was just playing physical football...Nothing was dirty about it. If not for the new rules, that is not a penalty. Harvin is soft....No way around it. Everytime he get hits he is out for the game

Seattle is a much tougher team than the Aints and is the reason they are playing in the NFCCG and the Aints are sitting at home. Being tough and trying to hurt someone are two very different things. One means you are scared the other means you are not. The Aints were "scared". Harvin had dropped the ball well before he was hit and the defensive player just figured he would take his shot anyway. Then the players and Coaches were slapping him hi-fives on the sideline as Harvin was being taken off the field. Classless act of a loser and said loser are sitting at home losing once again to the Hawks. Enjoy your off season.

I'm gonna be totally honest with this one. The 49ers don't have anyone who can cover Percy Harvin. Period.

This is gonna be anyone's game, but I can't realistically like the 49ers' chances if Harvin is healthy & playing.

So the question is will Harvin be able to go on Sunday? Or will he have to wait 'til all the tweetie birds circling around his head fly away?

It isn't common to see the concussion protocols keep a player out the following week, but he has now played in parts of two games and wasn't healthy coming out of either of them.

He may play, but how many plays until he has another boo boo? :noidea:

Odd that you hinge the game on his presence. This game will likely come down to turnovers as much as any specific play of either team. One big mistake on defense could be enough as well.

I know a guy who went to the game and the plays you saw on tv were just the tip of the iceberg. he said they were making a point to hit him every play, even when he was obviously out of it. Shady Aints strike again. Great work, that's the only thing you accomplished this weekend.

Well, it's not like I'm extremely confident about the Niners' chances even without Harvin playing. I just don't think anyone on the 49ers can cover the guy one on one, so my confidence would be even lower if Harvin is healthy & playing.

I'm just looking at this realistically. It's anyone's game, and having Crabtree back should help a ton. But I was really confident the Niners would handle Carolina relatively easily. Not so confident this time. :hope:

John Clayton:
The Saints felt that Harvin was important. Defenders hit him on most plays whether he touched the ball or not.

The game plan was to hit him all day as hard as they could whether or not he had the ball. Why? They wanted to take him out. Enough Said.

NinerSickness, Seattle has the best secondary in the NFL. I don't fear crabtree in any way, shape, or form. What his presence does is give another guy to pay attention to, but the game is about Boldin, Gore, and Kaepernick on your offense. Even Davis doesn't scare us. The others are out there as much to get more one on one looks for boldin as to have live routes. The difference between both teams threats is bolidn can take a hell of a beating while it appears Harvin is made of sugar candy :noidea: Harvin might be the best athlete on the field that day, but can he play more than 10 snaps? Anyone banking on that is stupid. I mean if he does play the whole game there is no doubt it changes the entire game for the offense. It spreads out the D which opens more holes for Lynch and helps the other receivers get better looks at passes.

Trust me, we are all as worried about this game as you are. As much as no fan base wants to lose their chance at a trip to the SB, you really really really don't want to see your most hated rival make it. While that would suck for you, add losing to your rival at home to watch them celebrate on your field to get there. And given their actions last week you know they will be taunting and harassing the fans as they do so. That vision would be hard to live with all off season. At least if you lose you wouldn't have that scene to deal with.

That doesn't surprise me. The Niners' WRs shouldn't scare Seattle that much. Seattle's pass rush / secondary does about as good a job as anyone shutting down WRs. But Crabtree is a ton better than Kyle suckbag Williams, so it should at least be harder this time around.

Even Davis doesn't scare us.

He should. Just like the Niners don't have a CB who can cover Percy Harvin one on one, Seattle doesn't have a LB who can cover Vernon one on one. It's probably the one area where the Niners' offense has the advantage.

It's not like there's no way to stop a great receiving TE though. Seattle shut down Jimmy Graham. Unfortunately I have a lot of faith in Pete Carroll (I wanted the 49ers to fire Steve Mariucci & hire him before his USC days) to scheme against him, and I don't expect either team to score more than 20 points.

The game might just come down to the kickers.

the over/under is hovering between 38.5 and 39.5 and I agree that neither should reach over 20. I'd probably take the under if it goes up at all which just might happen when news of Harvin's status is released.

As for Crabs, wasn't he in the game we played at SF? I keep hearing SF fans saying this will be a different game with him than our early season meeting, but I thought crabs played us a few weeks ago in SF? :noidea:

Yeah, just looked it up. In our last game: Crabs - 4 40 (17 long), Davis - 2 21 (13 long), and Boldin - 6 93 (27 long)

So I would say Seattle does a great job on crabs and davis, but because of their threat struggled against Boldin. So he is our one main worry outside of Gore and Kaepernick's running.

It's not night & day, but it's something.

Crabtree >>>>>>> Kyle Williams. This guy will forever be one of my most hated 49ers. :mad2:

and Quinton Patton > a gimpy Mario Mannigham (since put on IR).

But like you said Crabby was back for the matchup in SF; and I think that's why Seattle didn't win by double digits.

But the fact we only lost by 2 to the same team you are bringing in now while you were at home when it was a rare late game defense breakdown by Seattle that lead to that win, all gives us reasons to believe they should win this game. You gave us everything you had at home and still barely won it. Coming to the Clink and adding Harvin? Wow.

Which is why you won't hear me making any bold 49er-win predictions. I'll talk a little smack on the smack talk thread, but if I'm being 100% objective the smart money is on Seattle.

That said he 49ers can win this game. They match up with Seattle in terms of overall talent. But at home Seattle has the advantage.

Offense is gonna be at a premium, if recent history is to be believed. Since Harbaugh arrived in SF, there really hasn't been much offense. Seattle is averaging 300 yards of offense a game in the 3 games in Seattle, where the 9ers are averaging 290. Yes, Seattle is 2-1 in those games and have outscored SF 88-35, but really it's turnovers that are the difference. In the games Seattle won, they won the turnover game 7-2. In the loss it was 0-1 in SF's favor. Whichever team protects the ball better is the more likely team to win, but if Kaep and SF turn it over 5 times like they did last year, it's another long day for them. Seattle doesn't have any more room to play sloppy though.

No to call your friend a liar, but his memory is not exactly accurate. I watched the game again on the coaches view on NFL Rewind and the only time Harvin was hit outside of the two pass plays was when he initiated contact as a blocker. I didn't like the way an injury was applauded by the Saints, but it is what it is.

Then I guess John Clayton was wrong too as he said the same thing. In fact I've read that a few times since the game that he was taking hits even when the ball wasn't coming to him.

Well I think that teams see Harvin as valuable to the Seahawks and also very vulnerable, so of course they are going to try to lay some licks on him. Lets just hope he's back this weekend, should of saved for this game anyways IMO.

If he hadn't been in that game they likely wouldn't have had that first TD and possibly lost as a result. Playing him was the right choice.

If Harvin is available he should play and they should do what they can to not put him in the most dangerous routes. They should also put him back in kickoff returns. You don't put anything that can give you an edge off the table this week. This is what you play the game for.

Harvin must go all out. This is the NFC title game. Conference title games especially in the NFC. This isn't week 10....No time to play it safe.

If he's 75% you must play him

It might not even be Harvin's choice; there's a good chance the doctors don't even clear him.

If I were Percy I would be thinking about retiring right now. And I'm not just saying that as a 49ers' fan; Steve Young made the right move too when Lawrence Phillips made the matador move on a blitzing Aneas Williams to end his career. If you have all year to get healthy & this happens then your body is telling you something.

That said I'd be nervous if he suits up on Sunday.

Yeah considering that he had a concussion, it won't be his call so that's true

Watch the tape, he initiates contact as he is blocking for runs, but the Saints don't hit him for no reason. I watched the game specifically watching Harvin each time, targeting is just not there.

You do realize he had a labrum tear in his hip and had surgery just before the season started right? That surgery normally has at least a 6 month recovery time. by all rights he shouldn't have been active the whole season because of it. That he tried to come back after half that time is amazing and shows how hard he worked his ass off just to try and be a part of this team this season. It has still only been 4 months since the surgery?

I know there is a knock on him and who knows if once back from this he has something else come up, but it is far too early to say hang it up IMO. He took two pretty good hits to his head in that last game and since the leagues concussion protocols came online there isn't anyone who wouldn't have been pulled in his situation. We lost a few during the season and never had one miss the next game.

It is more likely that his lack of overall practice has him in near preseason form where we see all kinds of funny things even from vets. He isn't up to post season speed and neither is his body.

I'm sure he will be cleared to play next week and I'm sure Carroll uses him. The question then is how many plays will he go before he gets pulled for something. That will be a question that won't be answered until Sunday.
