Right now, it looks like the 2nd deal will be Gyorko for Benoit. If that is the way things go down, we will be fine. Since Benoit has a shot to close and Gyorko isn't a huge difference maker, nobody will complain about that.

My thinking is that the first part of the deal wasn't lopsided (it was made the day before the news that Grandy might be out til after the break). The second part was necessary to get the deal done immediately, and I could not afford to wait with my DL contingent growing by the day.

My guess is that it won't be an issue, but I do not like that the deal is being done the way that we are doing it.

The guy getting Hanley is in 7th and doesn't have much of a chance of affecting the standings.
I'm in 2nd overall, and I'm 4th in saves with Chapman & Kimbrel so Balfour should give me that boost I'm looking for.

My exact reason to NOT trade with you here Rev. We are tied for saves, and, had I given you a closer, I would have 2, and you would have 3, plus one on the D.L, and I would NEVER catch you saves wise then.

No need to explain. I sent out offers (or multiple offers) to 6 teams. Throw a bunch of darts at the board and hope one hits the bulls eye. Hanley gave me a nice going away present today, that was nice of him.

Oh yea, we aren't tied for saves for long:yahoo:

I offered Gyorko for Benoit this morning. If he accepts now, before Gyork is activated and while Benoit looks like a potential closer, this deal won't be given a second thought.

Deal may have gotten even better for you haha (as much as I like Gyorko)

I am not a huge Benoit believer. I think he can do the job, but I also think the Tigers will make a deadline deal to get somebody like Papelbon. The top teams all seem to have 2 or 3 guys at the back end of the bullpen who can shut down the opponent's offense. If the Tigers don't address their bullpen depth, it may cost them in October.

I hope the deal goes through so I can get a couple cheap saves and more importantly so that it looks legit as a stand alone deal.

I really do need Gyorko though. Right now I have Lowrie and Aviles at 2B and SS as I wait for Tulo and Hill.

I'd hold onto votto unless you could get more.
Votto is a premium first round player. You're getting 2 good guys, but I'd want Bruce and Gio as an example before I'd even think about. Even then, it would really just be to fill a desperate pitching need.
Maybe put it out there that you'll move him for 2 big pieces and see what comes of it.
Usually your offer is the type of one, that if you accept, you'll get 3 or 4 other owners emailing you, saying "wish i'd have known you'd move Votto, i'd have given you more"

Good luck

In most leagues i would agree with you, but in this format pitching and OF is much more valuable... As i said we dont have a CI position, so other owners dont really have a need for anything in particular besides OF and pitching... I have been shopping yadier molina, who is one of the best catchers in the game if not the best, and nobody wants him at all, because nobody really needs a catcher...

This week's favourite prospect: Addison Russell

You are probably aware, but I just saw yesterday that this kid just got bumped up a level in the minors.

I would tend to disagree with your statement that OF is more important in this format. A truer statement would be that position scarcity does not matter as much. You don't need an OF. Anybody you get will essentially be filling a UTIL spot. At that point, it is all about the stats and position eligibility doesn't really matter.

The question is whether the Gio addition offsets the downgrade from Votto to Pence. Pence has been playing out of his mind lately, but I just don't think it is enough to deal Votto. I think you should go after a better pitcher than Gio.

Either splitting the difference between you, or an attempt by me to have you guys find some middle ground, and in respect to the OF position, I think it can be agreed that, as a group, they are the highest producing group as far as stats go. As such, it's not that OF guys are the only targets, but just the best group to target as a group, and the easiest to count on to give you the stats you need to best help your team.

as always you have to play the league and play the other owners... Unfortunately in this league owners liek to hoard pitchers and OF, so there is nobody available. I have 4.33 OFs on my team(Victorino,Carpenter, lorenzo cain, will venable and billy hamilton). so i dont have good depth there. By trading for another good OF will give me depth at a position i am weak at and will allow me to make more trades(if i can). OF and pitching is in high demand in this league, and therefore there trade value is higher... Also with Votto hitting 3rd, walking all the time and a decline in his power numbers, he is no longer an eltie RBI guy.

I appreciate your imputs, i am just arguing in the sense that i dont know if i can do better... this has been by far the best offer i have seen... And i am getting desperate to improve my rotation, and my OF is weak and needs improvement...

You know your league better than us. I think that fantasy baseball is the rare sport where you can regularly improve your team by trading the best player or the biggest name. The key is to get your opposition to overpay. I am not sure that you have done that here.

If you like Pence and Gio, then go ahead and do it. It isn't a bad offer.

If this is the case, why do 99% of the trades offered to me seem to be "under-pays"?

If this is the case, why do 99% of the trades offered to me seem to be "under-pays"?

3 reasons:

1) most owners are not going to make their best offer right off the bat. The first offer you get is usually a low ball offer.

2) Most owners try to get something for nothing in their offers. They may offer .90 cents of value for $1.

3) Most owners also tend to overvalue their own players somewhat. It may take $1.15 worth of value to pry a player worth $1.00 in the average fantasy owner's mind.

Some combination of these three things lead to the phenomenon you addressed.

An update on the PTBNL:

My trade partner is having a tough time deciding which RP to send me. Trouble is, he has waited so long that Gyorko will likely be activated before any decision is made. My guess is that our trade will look something like this:

Healthy Gyorko for
Deposed and crappy Heath Bell

I told him he needed to move before Gyorko got activated. That deal, to me looks horribly one sided. Especially when I immediately drop Bell.

This PTBNL concept is interesting, but I think it might cause more problems then it's worth.
