I predict that Gary Brown gets an early call up. We're hurting at the leadoff spot. With Pagan and his mediocre cf defense and Blanco with his terrible offense, Brown couldn't be any worse than those two. If he is, he could just go back down (with some big league experience) until September.
We need a spark, I understand that we just got Pence, but we need a real spark plug inserted to the front of this lineup, while maintaining solid defense.

:amen:

Brown has been shifted over to LF. Maybe my prediction is going to hold true. I don't see how they can avoid calling him up with this inept production coming from a corner.

Some are saying that they don't want him to be brought up and feel that he has to replace Melky's production. I think you throw him in the 7th slot and tell him to just relax and play, just have lots of fun. You gotta love to come up and be in a pennant race.

You know what....Brown could make it. He owns lefties....not so much righties. Platooning him with Blanco could work.

Good points... and though he is green in terms of professional baseball, this is a guy that will be 24 before the season ends. No one doubted that he would be a September call-up, so why not get him up a couple of weeks early? The unexpected roster flexibility is a bummer, but that doesn't mean that the kid can't contribute at least as much as Blanco. I don't expect any drop-off in range or fielding production. Good call, EK.

40-flexibility is not an issue. Franchez is still only on the 15, so he can be transferred to the 60, freeing up a 40.

Melky also freed up spot on both the active and 40-man rosters when he was added to the restricted list (but Mota may be taking that 40-man spot pretty soon).

7-2 in the final 10 is looking a lot more possible than it did a couple of weeks ago.

Rounding error.

The programmer in me just got angry for a second.

Then I handed it the :dunce: and it quieted down...

sorry, I deal with "rounding errors" all day and have to REPEATEDLY explain them to execs and managers because they are incapable of understanding them...

Hopefully these are innocuous types of rounding errors (like why doesn't this column sum to 100?), and not: the flight crashed because of rounding errors in the avionics system.

LOL. Reminds me of an electrical engineering professor telling us, i.e. his class, that he had worked on the DC-10 program, I immediately asked him if had worked on the cargo doors, without missing a beat he said, "no, that was the guy in the next cubicle". Engineering humor, got to love it.

I was in a budget meeting some years ago. It was a mess. The treasurer had two reports. One was one that rounded to the nearest dollar, and the other was an actual report.

A new person in the meeting began to make noise about why column X in one report differed from column Y in the other report by $0.27. After repeated, and I mean REPEATED attempts to explain the differences in the reports, she was still asking, "Well, where is that $0.27?"

My frustration meter had been redlining for a a while, so out of sheer madness, I reached into my pocket, pulled out 27 cents, slammed it on the table, and said something like, "Here's your 27 cents. Can we please move on?!?"

Another board meeting I was in wound up passing a recommendation to spend over $50,000 on a project with very minimal discussion. To which one of the long time board members muttered, "Good thing we weren't talking about buying a box of paper clips, we'd have been arguing that all day long."

11-8 with 10 to go.

I'd be MORE than happy to have this Giants team surpass my 17-12 prediction. Currently 13-8 with 8 to go. Or 7, if Heathbar is counting.
