I'm guessing he didn't want the hassle of moving to another city for one more year of playing

He definitely has a couple years of football left in him (if he wants to play this out). He was still very productive last year and a good WR (still nearly 1,000 yards with sharing with JSN) - he's just not $26M worth lol. I was saying (I think in this thread) that he's worth about $15M IMO right now. And that's exactly what Seattle gave him. I would imagine most teams would be perfectly fine giving Lockett $15M per year, that's probably exactly what he would've gotten on the open market. That's right around where Diontae Johnson, Aiyuk (although that's a 5th year option rookie deal, he's going to command way more), Michael Gallup (lol, overpaid) DJ Moore are (DJ is also going to want more)

So many safeties available via FA... Like RB's, they're value is declining... Safeties that were released so far - Simmons, Kevin Byard, Eddie Jackson and Jordan Poyer, Jamal Adams, Eddie Jackson, Quandre Diggs and Rayshawn Jenkins also were cut this week and Marcus Maye is designated for a post-June 1 release from the Saints.

Lots of talent out there... Outside the huge salaries, I can see why the Hawks considered releasing BOTH Adams/Diggs... HC may see someone out there that fits his defense a bit more better...

I think all of us knew Adams/Diggs were getting released regardless. Neither were worth the ridiculous $46M combined cap hit. If both were AP1, fine... they were some of the worst safeties in the league....

Safeties always seem to be available in free agency. It's just not a position teams worry about that much. Like when do you ever see a legit DL, OL, QB in free agency? Hardly ever... or they're already re-negotiating with their team, or tagged, etc. And about the only safety in the draft that fits MacDonald's scheme is Nubin... who is not worth a 1st and we don't have a 2nd...

Kinda surprised at how good those FAs have been. Certainly some busts but mostly pretty good

Not sure what other moves the Seahawks can do to create cap space after this move:

Seahawks have said signing Williams is a priory so I was wondering what dollar figure would be too much. Average of 24 million?26, 22? 20? 18? 16?
Also how long should the contract be for? 4,3,2 or 1? Than the most important figure is how much should they guarantee?
After seeing Chris Jones getting 32 million per year average and 95 million guaranteed feel the market is getting inflated as D linemen will work off that to up their salaries. So their agent will say if Jones is getting 32 than my guy should get (insert number). So what is the cut off point for Williams IYO?

Jones was one of the best defensive players in football last year. Williams was good with us but he hasn't been dominant in a few years. I would think he will be closer to 20 mil than 30 mil

So 24 million per year ( that's closer to 20 then 30) ?

I could see that potentially. It will depend on what Macdonald sees in him. But it's pretty unlikely that the Hawks could find a similar quality player on the market at any price much less at 24 per.

We have enough cap room, now, to bring back Williams and sign a couple of high quality players like Stone or Queen or Chin or Simmons. Then fill out the rest of the roster with low cost players and the draft.

Hardly any DE's in free agency and just a few DT's, so be hard to find a good alternative in free agency from the looks of it. Nice set up for Williams who is looking for that 3rd contract. Teams often regret those 3rd contracts as you rarely get bang for your buck, I'd say it pretty consistent that those 3rd contracts become regrettable.Heck even 2nd contract carry high risk a lot of times but at least the players are usually younger.
Guess I'm torn about signing Williams, good player for now, but I suspect his contract will average at least 24 million a year and be 3-4 years in length and the guaranteed money will be higher then what we hope for. I know that is sounding negative and I'm hoping JS wows us by getting the right sort of cost and risk with the contract ( if the Seahawks sign him). I should take Aaron Rodgers advice and just RELAX. LOL

I think you worry too much about downstream cap problems. Off he signs a 4 year deal he will probably only play out 2 of them. The contract will be structured so as to minimize the pain. Teams know how to do that.

Players want up front money. A big signing bonus but low salaries in the later years is the most likely contract

Zero surprise Bellore gone. I said it earlier this year he along with Mone, Diggs, Adams, Dissly would be gone... I was on the fence with Lockett but that required a restructure, which of course happened.

So far I'm batting 1.000 (although none of these predictions IMO were hard to make).

Probably in the middle so 3yr 25mil per. 35 to 40 upfront and voidable by year 3. That's my guess.

Looks like the Seahawks plan to make some moves in the off season, so I'm really curious to see what they do.
