Sucks about Wagner. Not many relievers I'd put in but he's one I'd have no problem with getting in. Next year's do or die but it seems very likely he gets in. The only newcomers next year I expect to get in are Ichiro and maybe Sabathia.

Mauer, Helton and Beltre get the call.

Overall, a somewhat week class. Beltre was a no doubter, but I don’t think he is “inner circle”. Mauer is solid, but ultimately more of a tweezer, imho. Helton, also very good, is just that. Very good. And that’s where he belongs, imho. But I have always been a “Small-Hall” guy.

I am not adamantly against any of these guys, though. None are on the Baines or Pappy or Edgar level of infuriating inclusions.

I would love to see if anyone who voted for ARod DIDNT vote for either BB or RC (and had a vote at the time, of course).

Mauer was at least elite while playing a demanding position. Prior to his scrambled eggs for brains and bum knee.

Helton stat padded at a ballpark that could make me a pro if given the opportunity.

Mauer was an absolute stud for a his brief time behind the plate. Inarguably HOF worthy. But longevity IS a thing. And imho, his career length makes him borderline. I am fine with him getting in, and I even mentioned him as one of my consideration guys, so I am not fighting against it. And his inclusion GUARANTEES that Posey is a first-ballot no-brainer.

Helton was clearly aided by Denver. But his road numbers were good. Just not HOF good. I view Colorado hitters in the same light I look at DHs. My default stance on them getting in is “no”, but I will listen, and the argument has to be air tight. IMHO, Helton’s case is not air tight. Again, though, he is not a hill I am willing to die on, so ultimately, I am OK with his inclusion.

It's gonna take more time because it's the old boomers mostly, younger writers get it. The truly big names I think eventually get in (Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod, McGwire...)
McGuire should NEVER get in

When you consider the fact that Helton had a better road OPS than a guy like Carl Yastrzemski, his election wasn't a fluke.

Beltran gets the Pete Rose award for fucking up a Hall of Fame career after it was essentially over. All he had to do was retire in 2016.

I don’t remember Max throwing a cutter in Detroit.

I remember him throwing sliders. Which aren’t fastballs.

Tom Verducci is a chimp.
I would never call anyone a chimp, but based on your profile pic I think you're allowed to.

Beltre was common sense...

Mauer, i am shocked he made it on his vs try... saw him as a fence guy who would fall sooner or later... not the sooner...

helton, I like that he got in... kind of tired of the the Colorado padded stats argument... he hit, he hit well... one of the best hitters of his generation...

I am a BP guy, so I had a couple of guys making it... especially Wagner... he is also a lefty, and a top 5 lefty RP of all time...

That's a good group. Beltre was obvious. 2nd most games at 3rd base and tons of great offensive stats. Somehow only 4 all star games which is very surprising. I'm sure ARod got the call in front of him a lot of times but there must have been someone else blocking him.

Im sorry ya'll but I cannot confirm @Nosferatu status at this time. He has yet to respond to my wellness check text.

1 extra base hit
1 rbi
40 postseason ab's

I guess this means Posey is a lock 90%

Way to go Joe, the fact he got in and Wagner has to wait another year is hilarious.

Brian Harper > Joe Mauer

The more i am thinking about Mauer making it the more ANGRY(NOT REALLY ANGTY- just message board angry) i get... not that he didnt deserve to make it one day... but the way they make such a big deal about first time on ballot or not.... HE is not a first time on Ballot HOFer....

Not even close...

I dont like the system they have, that players that dont deserve to make it one ballot may deserve to make another... but in the system they use... Mauer making it on his first try is bascially a slap in the face to everyone else....

Don't get too angry. I probably shouldn't post this but I'm working on an app that should make you feel better. It's called MyHallofFame.com. You and 15-20 friends or so can go back and simulate the HOF voting process among yourselves to create the Hall that you really want. No one is told the results of the voting but using AI it is downloaded into a set of VR glasses. Then you can take a virtual tour of the Hall of Fame and see who was selected. Any time there is an induction ceremony on tv it uses AI to replace players that you deemed unworthy with players you actually voted in.

So imagine putting on the glasses on induction day and they pan out into the hall of fame group. "Hey look at all the HOFers! I don't see Harold Baines, but there's Roger Clemens! Has Tony Oliva gone bald? No, that's Barry Bonds! Is that Sweet Lou Whitaker? And is that the Hit King? Why is he giving his yellow jacket to those 2 large Italian men? Must have had a rough night with the bookies. Get back in your seat Pete, you rascal!"

i hope you are joking.... that sounds like you are spending a lot of money on making an app that nobody would ever use...

i'm so fucking sick of the concept of "first ballot HOFer"

either you think they should be in or they shouldn't. I don't look at a player and think "oh, he should have to wait until the 7th year". it's one of the many things wrong with baseball's HOF selection process.
