I had heard a while ago some of the young guys weren't to happy with how things were going.

Keep in mind, I don't know any of these players. So if I say anything completely out of character, I am not insulting them.

1 Robert Brown- I don't think so? He gets tons of minutes and starts from time to time. He also has had a lot of opportunity to make plays in Greenberg's offense.
2 Joey van Zegeren - possibly? I don't know if the RS was forced upon him or not
4 Cadarian Raines- I don't think so. He seems really upbeat and proud of his hokie family. Most likely the starter at 5 next year.
10 Marquis Rankin- I don't think so. He has a few starts and plenty of minutes. He doesn't spell Erick Green much, but does get a lot of time at the 1 with Green at the 2.
11 Erick Green- confirmed no
15 Dorian Finney-Smith- Possibly? I bet he was the primary ball handler and star on offense in high school. Now he's forced to make his offense with offensive rebounds and putbacks and doesn't get a lot of looks with the ball in his hands. I think he might go somewhere else so he can handle the bar more.
31 Jarell Eddie - I don't think so.
42 C.J. Barksdale- maybe? He does not get a lot of minutes, but I think he'll play the 5 a lot next year with Davila gone. He'll have an off season to beef up for 5 as well.

This is ridiculous. What could DFS or anyone else possibly be upset about?....other than coaching, gulp. These freshmen are all getting significant playing time and I think the team can be special next year if these guys continue to gel in the offseason. We have had problems with offense this year, but I'd say we are down at least 10pts/game because of youth. It's not like VT has been getting run out of the gym in the losing efforts.
If we lose anyone, I say its time for Seth to go. We are having too many players defect in recent years. I am still upset about losing Manny.

Losing players has been the one constant in this program. It's a very uncomfortable rate of turnover, which makes me question the root problem behind it.

This time around, unless it's Green, I won't be surprised.

i will say this, i am much more comfortable during games knowing that we dont have to see Doug E. Doug running the show.

I wouldn't be shocked if some of our good young players transferred. Disappointed, yes, but shocked? No. If it does come to be, then its definitely a trend. Munson, Thorns, Atkins, Boggs, Garland, etc. That's quite a bit of turnover for a guy who is suppose to be a great recruiter. If we lose another player(s), then its obvious that Greenberg is promising stuff and isn't delivering. In that situation, Greenberg has to go. We will definitely be hamstrung as a program because kids will look at us and say "Don't believe him. You'll go there and hate it".

Quick tangent: I too was upset with Atkins and to some extent Boggs transferring. I thought both could contribute, Atkins especially, yet Greenberg NEVER played them. He practically killed Delaney and Co playing them almost the entire game. I don't blame them for transferring.

this is worrying. we need to keep our guys here, this was a very solid recruiting class and they are all getting lots of minutes for freshmen, playing in big game situations. if we can keep these guys together, we will be very good next year. if not, we are royally screwed. literally the only guy id be ok with losing would be robert brown. i just dont see the potential there.

I think Bobby Brown has a lot of potential as a shooter. Remember, Erick Green sucked balls at shooting when he was a freshman and look at him now. Brown is much farther along than he was at this point.

I'm pretty worried about Barksdale

You'll hate me even more when you hear who it is.

dont be green dont be green dont be green

or DFS or DFS or DFS

Don't kill the messenger 757 but its not Green

Nope this is recent news.

well i'm glad its not green...so sounds like DFS? well hopefully we can do what we have to to keep him around

sometimes you just gotta read between the lines.... I could be wrong but that is what i got from that.

Unless he is A) Home sick B) Tired of being cursed/yelled @ or C) both, I dont really see a reason for DFS to transfer. He is starting as a true freshman and although things have been spotty at best for him this year, he looked to be a big part of this team going forward.

FTR: DFS did have big numbers in HS (as you would expect from just about any major college bball player) but he was known as much for distributing the basketball and such as he was a scorer.

I think that's my point. In HS, he had the ball in his hands a lot. Even if he didn't make a play, he set up other guys. Now he is forced to play down low and set screens since he is the 4 in Greenberg's offense. He does get the ball up top from time to time and makes a play but most of his offensive touches comes from offensive rebounds and putbacks.

I could be totally off, but from some reason I think that's the most likely besides Barksdale or Joey VanZengren. I hope Barksdale does not leave. He seems like he's a high motor guy that's an off season away from being strong enough to play and defend in the low post for extended minutes.

Young players want playing time and do not want to sit on the bench. Greenberg isn't a paint a pretty picture guy. He's going to the player what he does not want to hear.

Everything I've seen from DFS, indicates he needs to really work on receiving and passing the ball. At times, he's as bad as Eddie fumbling simple passes. Regardless, any player on this team who is talking transfer at this point in the season doesn't have his head on straight.

Who said 18, 19 year old athletes have their head on straight?
