One thing as Hoos or Hokies that we can all agree on: ACC REFS FUCKING SUCK.

Bleh, lost another winnable game. I guess that is what happens when you play a bunch of close games.

great play design greenberg. great play

Looked to me like they were not looking for a shot, they were just running the clock down and were going to go for a game winning 3.

which is dumb. i would have been perfectly fine with playing for the tie/overtime considering uva had its 2 pgs fouled out. if it goes to overtime, i think we would have had a great chance to win. instead, we dont even get any semblance of a shot off. im not even surprised, again, but still am pissed. why do i let this team get my hopes up all the damn time.

There was no play design really. If Dodo completes the pass, that player would have had like 3 seconds to do something. That did annoy me how they didn't review that 3 pointer at the end of the shot clock play. Even in real time you could see that he didn't get it out of his hands. Oh well.

I don't think Finney Smith throwing it into the UVA player's chest was a part of the play design.

a normal coach would run the clock down to 8 and then run a set play. with people moving towards the basket

I think the reason they did not review it was
a) the game clock malfunctioning all of the 2nd half
b) the buzzer did not go off until after the ball left his hands

Yeah I found it odd that the buzzer sounded so late. The announcer said that there were 5 seconds on the clock and it clearly took longer than that for the shot to go up. I will say, though, the refereeing benefited VT. There were a bunch of interesting calls that I could only smile about.

Well that was fun. Wait, no it wasn't. At least I'm getting numb to the pain.

Just got back from the game. The student turnout tonight was good to see. Although, listening to some of our students talk about basketball makes me want to hammer a nail in my head.

Some thoughts:

-If there is a block/charge call where the refs come up with different fouls, they are supposed to call both fouls. Learned that day 2 of ref training. Intramurals could be different from NCAA, though. Can't complain too much about reffing since I thought we got the benefit of a lot of calls.

-Mike Scott is hard to defend. Thought we did a good job adjusting to defend him after he put up a quick 10 points on us. He's simply stronger than our players, though.

-Raines has good post moves when he uses them. It's nice to have a big man with more moves in his arsenal than a hook shot.

-I liked that we switched to a press, but thought we should have done it earlier. This team slumps really easily and they simply need something to wake them up. Switching to a press can quickly flip the momentum.

Disappointing loss, but we're all used to it at this point of the season. At least there are occasional rays of light from this team that give me hope that next season will be better.

anyone else notice that the whole 11+ minutes that we didnt score in the 2nd half, we didnt take the ball inside once?? wtf. If that is the players, then Greenberg needs to get on them...if that is Greenberg's plan, then I am starting to agree that he may need to go sooner than later, because a high schooler in a pick up game could come up with a better game plan.

so what's the deal with the shot clock violation? the commentator said that that could be reviewed after the game? so did we really get the 1 point win? ugh, this season is so aggravating.

Anyone know, for sure, what the timeout rule is regarding falling out of bounds. I was under the impression that a player could not negate out of bounds or travel via a timeout. My understanding was that this provision of the rule applied to any instance where a player is not in control and about to travel or fall out of bounds regardless of touching the playing surface. I recall UNC fans whining about a similar call last season against Duke. The ESPNU announcers made it sound like the player had to be in the air for that provision to be true.

If the ESPNU crew was right, I'd assume the foul on Hudson when he took the charge was a make up call. In the end that kind of evens things.

LMAO at the bank after the buzzer. I've also laughed the Virginia fan out of my office this morning on that one shot being the difference. We didn't deserve to win based on our patented NBA quarter of non-offense so I can't even attempt to be a little mad.

This basketball series has really become a rivalry. Close games, crazy endings, and it feels like a lot more fan involvement on both sides. With all the traditions falling and teams seperated from rivals around the league, UVA-VT being united is a bright spot in the new ACC.

The rule changed in 2006/2007 to state that an "airborne" player cannot call a time out. Pretty sure if you have one foot on the ground you can call it.
