I can't say I've picked up on an infatuation with vets over rookies when it comes to Woody. If he's ever come across as anything to me, it's trying too hard to "think outside the box." He'll hit Garcia or Lowe 4th, then 6th, then 4th again with no rhyme or reason. He'll hit Smith leadoff but not Taveras when Smith is sitting. He pinch-hits like crazy.
That is true but he starts the vets over guys brought up. Even Duran had to be sent down because he was not getting ABs. I really think he is a better option than Culbertson don’t you think

the FO brought Duggar in and he' was on the 40 with only 1 option left so he was put on the roster and got playing time until it was apparent, he was worthless at the plate, and he was sent down. now if they call him up, he stays on the roster unless they DFA him
Doesnt he keep his option the rest of the year?

I agree but little tough sending vet to AAA. Need to buy them out or trade them.

Like I said earlier, my opinion is that they sent Duran down so he could get work in at OF positions before being brought back up.

I don't think Miller or Culberson or Calhoun should be regular players. But I also don't want to bring up a bunch of guys that aren't ready and have them overwhelmed by MLB pitching.

Yes. They could refuse the assignment. Point was Culbertson and Miller could start only 1 time per week.

I don't see how eating Miller's $4 million 2023 contract should be hard at all. That is not much in today's baseball economy.

Of course and that is why I am not advocating bringing up AA guys directly.

Just hoping for now that Smith and Hernandez start as regularly as Leody.
That leaves one spot open for DH.
Do you think Huff would be overwhelmed. I am in the fence about him

The issue with Huff is that the two positions he plays are 1B and C. He's not going to supplant Lowe or Heim as a starter.

I wonder when they will hold the draft lottery. They could tie it in with the World Series like they are having the draft during the AS break.

That is the kind of decision they are going to face several times as prospects get ready. Do you supplant an okay guy with one with more upside? These decisions could be the deciding factor when it comes to just how good this team will be in 5 years. The cast-offs could make for a better team than the ones they keep.

Between Heim, Lowe and Huff, I would keep Huff, but that is just me. I would trade Lowe very soon while he is at the peak of his value. I wanted to keep Trevino over Heim.

I think if this team is a disappointment over the next 5 years it will be because of them making bad decisions concerning which guys to go with and which to trade.

When Huff first came up he hit very well. Wasn't till he was jacked around back and forth til he quit hitting. Again that is on Woody.

as far as i know he had 1 option left when he was trade to the Rangers from SF and the Rangers used it when they optioned him to the minors

That's very accurate - but also that's not a unique problem, that's every team that's ever been in the position of a rebuild. All we can do is hope that we've kept the right guys.

For me personally, I have felt that 2023 was still going to be something of a transition season... it would be the earliest that the Rangers could contend for the postseason, but not that they definitely would. I imagine there will be guys like Thompson, etc. that get their chance next year.

they can only send vets without options to the minors under the injury clause and i think they are limited to 5 games

I mentioned earlier that I thought Garcia might be traded with no response. Any thoughts about it?

looks like a couple of people responded. I don't see it happening, personally.

Other teams aren't going to want our underperformers, not unless they are included in a package with prospects or quality pieces like Lowe or perhaps Dunning.

For that to happen, we would need a new manager. Woody doesn't like to sit veterans and play the young guys.
i personally think he is getting pressure from the FO on playing the vets as it is Miller and Culberson are playing once maybe twice a week. and Calhoun seems to be playing 2 or 3 times a week. if he put them on bench the FO would be pressuring him to play them. they are being paid millions and the FO doesn't want to pay them to sit.
