I looked but couldn't find another thread about it. Which is kinda shocking.
Anyone watching it? I think it's been great. Even the wifey is enjoying it and she hates sportsball.
I've been watching it. While it is ''exaggerated'' to an extent, it seems to be fairly accurate as far as what I remember and have heard and read about that era.
Certainly exaggerated. But it's also pretty irreverent so you don't take it too seriously.
The kid they have playing Magic is great.
Out of everyone, I'd have to say that, so far, he has come closest to how his character was at that time. Also, while he was known as Magic to everyone outside of the Lakers, his nickname within the organization was ''Buck''. I like how they have been showing that and that it wasn't necessarily always used in a complimentary way.
Yeah.
The Kareem character, I think, does a pretty good job showing his general attitude. They certainly dramatized his metamorphosis to buying into the system but I think Kareem was always viewed as surly.
A big time St Joe Hawk flow to this story. They are certainly making Paul Westhead look like a bit of a goofball. I bet that changes some when he takes over.
That bike wipeout by McKinney was pretty rough.
I had to assure wifey that he didn't die.
Probably my favorite episode thus farI just downloaded Episode 5 this morning and will be watching after I'm off work. I was curious as to how they were going to handle that.
I read about that incident about 12 years ago in a book about St Joe basketball. Crazy story. And that one bike ride changed the life trajectory for so many different dudes. That bike wipeout by McKinney was pretty rough.
You think Kareem & Magic had the physical altercation that they portrayed in episode 5?
Throwing hands and shoving matches doesn’t seem like KAJ M.O. But I don’t doubt the conflict and Magic’s balls in speaking up and challenging him.Not sure to be honest. I've never seen it mentioned before this show. They have exaggerated some things, so my guess is that they exaggerated a discussion that became very heated and maybe there was a push or 2.

Didn’t think it was possible but this series is catching me in my feels for the fucking Lakers (maybe it’s because I hate Auerbach and the Celtics more) and that’s with me knowing this culminates with a championship over my Sixers haha.Yep. The stuff they are showing about Kareem separating himself from his teammates and not being on board with McKinney's system is true.
Magic had basically decided he was going to drag Kareem out of his shell, then with McKinney actually telling him to take over running the offense...Kareem never had a chance. lol
