Weaver has done so much for the betterment of our Olympic sports, but he is awful when it comes to football. This is a travesty. Unbelievable. The Thursday night home game in Lane Stadium is something that we are known for, and a big reason why people know the power of Lane.

Wow - I hope she represents only .01% of the current student fan base. Weak and exemplifies the typical me-first d-bag mentality I am starting to see among some of the current students. Not cool.

You can just read the comments and see that no one feels like she does

I'm completely against not having a Thursday night game, but now that it is a done deal, I'm trying to see the positive in it. Although, I didn't think there would be any positives, Shane mentioned today that recruiting wise it could be better because most recruits can't visit for Thursday night games because of living so far. Basically in the past, for the most part, only Roanoke and NRV players could come to the Thursday night game, and we all know that's not that many players. But having an extra home game on Saturday could mean more opportunities for recruits to visit the game/campus.
Don't get me wrong, he did say there's nothing like an night game in Lane and that he hopes one of the Saturday games could become a night game.

FYI- there are a few updates on the roster on Hokiesports. I noticed that Deon Clarke and Josh Stanford are both listed as r-Fr, so those requests went through.
Heights and weights aren't updated, numbers have been given to early enrollees though too

Probably moved due to a more highly anticipated matchup between Georgia and Clemson in primetime. If they were playing at the same time, the national audience would probably switch over to them instead of Bama/VT.

names that are missing compared to last fall's roster:
Logan Baker
Tyler Barfield
Darian Fisher
Justus Hoffmann
David Mellstrom
Joe St. Germain

That last one is surprising. It was reported that Joe had earned a scholarship back in January. Wondering if this is just a webmaster snafu...

Oh, and McKinnon, who's still suspended.

They have. They have sets w/Ohio State and Wisconsin coming, and probably have ND up in 2015.

I wouldn't go that far. 2015 is just the first year that we could possibly play ND (assuming no cancellations). What are the chances Weaver will let us play tOSU/Wisky and ND in the same year, if he can help it? If we do end up playing them in 2015, and matched up with a decent Atlantic team, that could be a pretty good slate, though:

Furman
@ECU
tOSU
non-conf... ND?
Duke
@GT
@Miami
UNC
Pitt
@UVA
@BC
Atlantic team

I think it was Andy Bitter that pointed out that over the next few years 2015 is the only one with an opening in the schedule. Given that Beamer's presumably retiring in the next few years it makes sense that they'd play ND that season, though this is the ACC we're dealing with so who knows.

yes, Bitter said that, and drew the same conclusion you did, but I don't see it. Yes, we already have 4 OOC foes lined up for 2014 and 2016, but that just means we are highly unlikely to play ND in 2014 or 2016, not that we're likely to play them in 2015. I think it's more an issue of Weaver than the ACC. The ACC may very well want us to play ND in 2015, but will Weaver want us to play ND in 2015 knowing tOSU is already on the schedule for that year? I wouldn't put money on it. And I don't think Beamer is retiring all that soon. I expect he'll be on the sideline for ND whether we play them in 2015 or 2018.

Yes, but one quality opponent doesn't justify multiple cupcakes in a given year. Florida State already plays Florida.

I hope VT does schedule ND. Now we're talking.

FSU played Murray State, Savannah State and USF last year. This year they play Nevada, Bethune-Cookman, and Idaho. Alabama plays Colorado State, UT-Chattanooga and Georgia State. Really, schools that have more than one legitimate OOC opponent in a year are the exception rather than the rule.

I really don't know what you think that proves. Alabama does schedule some light teams OOC, but look at Alabama's IN CONFERENCE schedule (in conference marked with *):

Aug. 31......... Virginia Tech.............................. Atlanta, Ga.
Sept. 14......... *at Texas A&M............................ College Station, Texas
Sept. 21......... Colorado State............................. Bryant-Denny Stadium
Sept. 28......... *Ole Miss..................................... Bryant-Denny Stadium
Oct. 5............ Georgia State............................... Bryant-Denny Stadium
Oct. 12.......... *at Kentucky............................... Lexington, Ky.
Oct. 19.......... *Arkansas.................................... Bryant-Denny Stadium
Oct. 26.......... *Tennessee.................................. Bryant-Denny Stadium
Nov. 9........... *LSU.............................................. Bryant-Denny Stadium
Nov. 16......... *at Mississippi State................. Starkville, Miss.
Nov. 23......... Chattanooga................................. Bryant-Denny Stadium
Nov. 30......... *at Auburn................................... Auburn, Ala.

I think you have to look at the overall schedule for a given year, and I'd call VTs schedules of last year and this year fairly weak.

That's all I was saying. I'll give VT some credit for their one quality OOC opponent per year, as they've been scheduling some super teams.

Yes, I'm aware that the SEC is a tough conference, but we were talking about OOC schedules. My point is the majority of BCS teams don't schedule more than one big OOC game a year. With a few exceptions there's one tough game, a 1-AA game, and then 1-2 games against MAC/Sun Belt/WAC/C-USA teams.

in conference schedule
@ A&M - 11-2 (6-2) last year
vs Ole Miss - 7-6 (3-5)
@ KY - 2-10 (0-8)
vs Ark - 4-8 (2-6)
vs Tenn - 5-7 (1-7)
vs LSU - 10-3 (6-2)
@ Miss St - 8-5 (4-4)
@ Auburn - 3-9 (0-8)

is their in conference schedule really that bad?
Opponents have a combined record of 50-50 last year, half of their SEC opponents finished below .500

Yeah it's the SEC, a conference with 2-3 really good teams, a bunch of middle of the road teams that are no better than other AQ middle of the road teams, and a few bottom feeders, that are just as bad as the other bottom feeders in the country.

Bama has the friendliest schedule in the SEC this year. No Florida, Georgia or South Carolina from the East.
