Have the Celtics made it to Brooklyn yet? I decided to watch the Dodgers while waiting.

I am old enough to remember every talking head talking about how Boston fleeced Brooklyn/New Jersey in trade.
And it would cause years of misery for Brooklyn and long term championship success for Boston.

Maybe it was not a direct pathway or correlation to anything in the trade, but the NETS seems a lot closer to a title 7 years later.

Boston has seemingly wasted all that they got from the trade.
And that is all that really matters.

I guess....but is having Kyrie and Harden on the court really gonna stop the other team from scoring? And, hell, can always put them back in if it gets a little too close.

You don’t even need stops at that point. You need to be able to hold the ball for 20 seconds without turning it over. That is it. Of course a comeback is almost impossible regardless of who is in. Almost.

Why take out 2 of the best ball handlers in the world for that situation? Leave them in 1 more possession and it really is out of reach.

All I am saying is the criticism of having them in is unwarranted.

No way.....not when the Nets can just hold the ball for most of the shot clock.

But that again is the point. If the Celtics have starters in and are pressing, all you need to do is hold the ball.

I want Harden, Kyrie and Durant to hold the ball.

Run the clock 1 or 2 times and it really is over.

Injury risk during a game of keep away is very low.

No, they were rightfully out halfway through the 4th with a 25 point lead

And when the losing pulls pulls their guys, the winning team can pull theirs.

Simple. All depends on flow.

Brooklyn did get fleeced. With KG and Pierce they finished 6th and 8th in 2014 and 2015 respectively. They then won 21, 20 and 28 games the next 3 years. That was an awful trade at the time and in hindsight turned out to look even worse.

More than anything... it shows that you can't (or at least that you shouldn't) boil down a complex equation to any one factor.

That trade was absolutely a great swindle by the Celtics.

And I think that many people tend to forget that assets such as Tatum and Brown are still quite young.

Beyond that, I wonder if you would "seemingly" have a different opinion if the Celtics were fully healthy right now and Brooklyn maybe had a Kyrie or a Harden out for the season. :noidea:

Of course, the Celtics have been snake-bit previously on the injury front with Hayward most notably.

Health is a huge part of the equation.

Boston absolutely fleeced Brooklyn. The Celtics made what? 2 or 3 ECF's since that trade. The Nets have done?

Kyrie, KD and Harden all deciding they want to play together in Brooklyn had nothing to do with that trade and doesn't change the fact that Boston "won" that trade handily.

Injuries have had some pretty major impact on what the Celtics (maybe IT cursed them for doing him dirty?) have been able to do and...Danny overplayed his hand a little by hanging on to some of the assets too long and not following through on some deals because he thought he had to win every trade like he did the one with Brooklyn.

Joe Harris played for the Cavs once upon a time.....LOL.
Sure did.....David Griffin traded him for a protected 2nd rounder.

Probably could blame the current GM or Gilbert if we wanted.

I agree it's fair to say the Cs won that deal and not really debatable. But also true even with all the assets the Cs had the Nets have blown past them.
