Major coaching rumor I heard today... (Georgia Tech and Auburn)

Still has to deal with Georgia every year. Only now he has to recruit the same exact areas as a failed Auburn coach.

Oh, and the ACC.

His career is over if he leaves Auburn.

I'd like to see him in downtown Atlanta on the weak side of the ACC. I've felt that if someone who could recruit ever came to GT, they would be stepping into an amazing recruiting area.

We shall see. I don't know if Auburn would pay $20-$30 million to dump him. On top of that, I don't know if he would want to coach at such an academic school as GT.

As far as the Paul Johnson side of this, I'm relieved. He's been here 11 years and never really turned the corner on the program.

The program peaked several yrs ago and I think it's time for some fresh ideas...namely OFC.

The name I've been hearing that would make a lot of sense for Tech if they just wanted to throw caution to the wind... Mike Leach out in Wash St. He will win games, they will be more fun to watch.

Either way, this is an important hire for Tech...they need to get this one right.

Really? That's the best he could get? I thought he'd be a big name for some of the lower tier P5/upper tier G5 jobs. Texas State is a horrible program. Hell they got smoked by Rutgers. RUTGERS!

The problem isn't so much can the coach recruit, it's who he is allowed to recruit.

The biggest problem GT has is the fact that even though they are in one of the most talent rich states they simply can't recruit it as well as even the schools outside Georgia because of their institutional academic restrictions.

I've got a feeling that if they were able to talk a guy like Gus into coming to GT, they would have to give some relief to some of those restrictions.

Again, I don't know if I believe that Gus will be dismissed from Auburn (that is the only way I see him going to GT), but if GT really wanted him, and if he were to even think about going, they would make some exceptions to make his transition there easier.

I don't think it would take long to overhaul GT, if you were given a lot of leniency on the academic side for who you brought in. Of course, I don't know why Mike Leach would leave Wash St for GT right now.

That was more of what I was getting at. There's no need for him to leave a program that he already has trending in the right direction to go to another that needs a total overhaul.

Probably right...they had him on a interview recently on local sportstalk and it didn't sound like he was content out west...would listen if they called is the vibe I got.
