1 less loss than Ohio State. And didnt lose by 30+ points to a bad Iowa team. 2 ranked wins and Was destroying teams before they had a million injuries.

Iowa was a bad team? They were 7-5, while playing an elite schedule.

Ohio State played a superior schedule than Alabama, and had wins against Wisky, Penn State, Michigan State, and Michigan.

If we went by committee top 25 wins, UCF would be better than Alabama. UCF had 2 wins against top 25 opponents. The only difference is that UCF won all their games and won their conference.

How about Wisky? They won 12 games. None of which were FCS schools. They qualified for the CC game, and only lost by 6 points rather than 12. And btw, Wisky dominated pretty much every opponent that season too.

So again, there's no argument for why Alabama was head and shoulders over everybody else. 2017 is yet another example of why we need 8 teams. They are ALWAYS more than 4 teams deserving it or "the best".

the committee's job one, is to put the 4 BEST teams in. not the 4 most deserving.

Everybody should want the "best teams". We shouldn't put in teams because we like their coach, quarterback, or feel they were hosed too many times before. The problem here is nobody comes up with a real objective criteria for what "best" means.

Now I 100% agree that Alabama deserved to play for a National Championship in 2017. But I also agree that Wisky, Ohio State, UCF, and USC should have been in that conversation as well.

By doing conference champs only, that what you just did, a team like Northwestern can go 0-3 in nonconference but still go to the playoffs because those games are now the equivalent to the NFL preseason. No one is going to schedule good teams because you get nothing for beating those teams and you can get an injury that effectively ends your season, see Florida State in 2017.

You want to fix a problem that hasn’t happened yet. What team was left out that shouldn’t have been? Do you think that there should be no punishment for losing games by 5 scores?

Don’t let NW win your conference

I just want all 5 conference to be involved

Then if you want to be in the playoffs play a big boy schedule and don’t lose a game and put it in the hands of the committee. It’s just that easy.

You are usually one I agree with on other topics. But this one we differ, not going to argue, just put in my 2 cents

They were in the conversation, they were in lots of conversations. They were just not picked. Most people did not hold Wisky, UCF or USC in the same regard you do. I personally wouldn't have picked Ohio St...or anybody that lost by 30 to an unranked team, but I have have no big issue with those that disagree. I also have no problem with the committee choosing the "best" by any criteria they choose. Feel free to argue about it, that's what boards are for.

I just hate the idea of autobids. It does not ensure that the playoffs are getting the teams that are having the best seasons. A team can have a mediocre season but pull a game out of their ass in the championship game and get a free ride to the playoffs. If Pitt turns in a 2016 repeat and beats Clemson in the CCG, I would hardly say that they were the better team and had a better season. You are saying that that one game but all the other games are meaningless.

If Bama were to lose to Georgia this year — I have a feeling they are getting left out if ND, Clemson and UM win out.

As was stated already — Bama has the 67th ranked SOS and play........The Citadel now this week. That is only going to drop their SOS even more. The fact Auburn isn’t in the top 25 anymore at 6-4 isn’t going to do much for them as they also play a FCS team which will do nothing for their ranking.

UM is at 16 for SOS and still has to play OSU.

Personally — if I had to choose between the two teams in a must win game. I’d take Bama because of the legacy they’ve built, but then again, I’d picked Bama over ANY team in CFB in that type of game.

If they go by just this year and the resumes each team has — UM would have the tougher schedule. They’d have the conference championship. They’d have the ‘better loss’. They’d be on a 12 game winning streak. And they have twice as many quality wins.

I’m saying, the conference championship games are the first round of the playoffs, win it and you move on. It’s not a auto bid you have to win your conference.

I should add — this is all hypothetical as I think Bama thumps Georgia by 2+ scores.

I also have no problem with the committee choosing the "best" by any criteria they choose.

You do? Why? Shouldn't there be some sort of checklist? Shouldn't we define what SOS means?

The problem is the highly subjective nature of the sport. It's all opinion, nothing objective.

i can see all those except ucf.

So you agree with me that we should be at 8 rather than 4? That's my overall point. For 2017, I would rather we say Clemson, Georgia, Oklahoma, Alabama, Ohio State, USC and Wisconsin are in. You all played a quality schedule, won at least 11 games, and beat some really good teams. Then we can discuss about teams like UCF, Penn State, Miami, and Auburn.

Part one is debatable.. The only note worthy team OSU would have vs bama would be mich.. The other teams are no different than teams bama has playes.. And losing to uga would still look "better" than any game OSU had all year. Mich or OSU will play NW in B10 championship. A 4 loss team correct? A bama loss would certainly look better than a mich or OSU win over NW. A 4 loss team that has no wins out of conf.. Noting losses to duke and AKRON...........

The second part.. Even tho i know ppl will keep complaining until there is an 8 seed playoff.. There will still be people moaning because they arent in. Hell there are ppl who think there should be a 32 and 64 seed playoff. Reg season games do matter and are part of the playoffs. Not sure why people dont get that part.

Lets say for argument sake, the following things happen:

Clemson goes 13-0. Notre Dame goes 12-0. Michigan wins out and goes 12-1.

Georgia beats Alabama. Both teams finish 12-1.

Under this scenario, Georgia, Clemson, and Notre Dame would be locks to get in. Do you take a 12-1 CC Michigan or a 12-1 Alabama?

Would you response change, if either (a) Georgia wins by at least 10 points, or (b) the ending was a "fluke" of some sort. Think 2013 Alabama vs. Auburn. Think the first 2011 Michigan State vs. Wisconsin game. Think 2013 Georgia vs. Auburn ending,

A 12-1 Alabama gets in before a 12-1 Michigan because ESPN and the SEC are in bed together.

It's easy to love the system when you're benefiting from it.

"Some people are born on third base, thinking they hit a triple" - Barry Switzer

Who is benefiting from the current system?

There are no college football teams that were born on 3rd base.

At first I got excited by the title, then I realized it means Georgia wins and I don't like that either.

Does Alabama worship a tree after games or is that just Auburn?

All I’m saying is — if Georgia beats Bama and UM wins out and is left out of the CFP — I’m setting that tree on fire!!!!
