he did, just like any recent player, for the right deal/team hed play
Good point. Outside of Peterson he is the best option then probably Alfred Morris and Orleans Darkwa and if you need to rely on either of them you are in trouble.

Got that right...

About all he is good at is mentoring at how to be a horrible rapper or getting caught smoking in your car.

He could mentor the rookies on how to pack a bowl......:dhd:

Seriously guys, why are we sitting here debating free agent running backs no one wants?????

The front office is either going to run the legs off of Bell this year and transition tag his Dumbass, or they could use their golden ticket (bell) and trade the piece of shit for damn near anyone in the league. Yes of coarse teams like the VaGiants, Cowboys, Rams, and maybe one or two others are definite no nos......but we could get just about anyone we wanted, IF the front office decides to go the road of trading him.
If not, run his legs to death, transition tag him, if we don't want to meet whatever offer he's offered then we get compensatory picks......

Oh yeah that is the truth, it is just fun to discuss. I hope he breaks the record for touches by week 12.

I'd rather they didn't and get the compensatory pick. Bell has maybe 2 years left of elite level play. I'd be shocked if he was able to play into his 30's given the mileage he has on those legs. Let some other team overpay & become their ball & chain.

If he has another pro-bowl year then I'm sure it'll be weighed on heavily. But if he struggles to stay healthy then its a no-brainer to just let him walk, no strings attached.

It's going to be Conner if he can stay healthy. Samuels is a raw product right now. Heard Tomlin through him into a gauntlet during "Backs on Backers" already. He failed miserably to block anyone. Rosie Nix took him under his wing to coach him up.

He's got plenty of room to grow. We'll see how he responds in Backs on Backers Rd 2. I'm sure Tomlin will put him through the ringer once again.

If you're interested, here are PennLive's Jacob Klinger's day 1 of pads camp notes from the Backs on Backers drill:

Some notable reps, notes and quips from Tomlin during the drill:

  • "I like it, Fitz. I like that, Fitz. I like it, Fitz," Tomlin told Fitzgerald Toussaint after he blocked Anthony Chickillo early in the drill.
  • Vince Williams ran straight through tight end Pharaoh McKever
  • L.J. Fort beat Stevan Ridley
  • T.J. Watt, Keion Adams and Farrington Huguenin all cleanly beat Christian Scotland-Williamson, who was clearly the only player of the group to have never played football until the last year
  • Matt Galambos got around Jarvion Franklin, first to the right, then the left, then with a bull rush as Tomlin kept calling for rematches
  • Adams beat Roosevelt Nix with a bull rush when the fullback slipped. When they ran the rep back Nix held off Adams and tossed him to the ground late in the rush.
  • Huguenin ran through tight end Ryan Malleck so cleanly that as the players pulled up after the rep outside linebackers coach Joey Porter teased Malleck by asking "You all right? You need some help?"
  • After what was probably a hold by Xavier Grimble against T.J. Watt, Tomlin said "They say you pulled him, X." Following the fairly even rematch rep, Tomlin continued "You're playing too rough. That's what they're saying. That's what they're saying, X."
  • James Conner split back-to-back duels with Bud Dupree
  • Jon Bostic ripped through Ridley twice in a row
  • Matthew Thomas beat Jaylen Samuels from the left of the defense, after which Tomlin said he would put Samuels through a "gauntlet." Thomas beat Samuels three more times from the left side. The last one was a bull rush. Then Darnell Leslie beat Samuels twice more. Roosevelt Nix coached Samuels up behind the drill afterward.
  • Thomas blew by Toussaint
  • Grimble stuck Leslie
  • Nickel corner Mike Hilton joined the drill for a best-of-three with Toussaint. Hilton popped through the running back on the first rush before Toussaint blocked him on the next two, prompting Tomlin to tease the corner "That's why I hesitated to bring your little [butt] down here."
  • Franklin blocked Tyler Matakevich before Tomlin called Williams in to run through the running back roster hopeful
