Oh shit now you're a Lakers fan? Bad choice, really bad choice. There's already way too many of those people around here.

whoa.. holy shit--- i didnt realize the guy was already 23 either.

If Colin Sexton is playing in summer league at the age of 23 and being featured you got a BIG BIG PROBLEM. lol.

only reason you have a 23 year old playing THAT much in summer league is to try and get his value up and get him some exposure.

and it furthers my point.

You could say that about just about ANYONE in summer league.....take Osman with the Cavs- he is a 2nd year player that did not get a ton of run last year. Even though he played in summer league he only played a couple games- which is typically what happens unless you are a rookie. A vast majority of players on these summer league teams will be bagging groceries in a couple weeks.

The overiding reason to give a guy so many minutes in his 2nd year after being a 1st round pick in the summer league i believe is to feature him for a trade. Otherwise its very very rare to see a guy- A. play in summer league in his 2nd year after being a 1st round pick, and B. playing so much. Like Osman- you might get a couple games- but only so much can be done playing against some 30 year old from Notre Dame getting paid a 100 bucks a day trying to keep the dream alive. The Cavs decided to let Zizic leave and not play Osman so they could see guys like Preston to dtermine if they are worthy of camp invites.

Ill guarantee you the reason that Hart got so much run, and not only played, but has played a TON is that they are featuring him to get his trade value up.

And?

The question was why is Hart playing? That's the answer based on what he said and what he's been doing.

The question wasn't about anyone else.

there are very few 2nd year players that accomplished much of anything that go to Summer League.

There are plenty of fringe prospects and never-beens in the summer league---- but typically you dont see 2nd year players there that got much run during their rookie seasons. Of course there are exceptions to every rule.

3 leading ppg were all 2nd year players (Hart, Collins, Monk). Collins and Monk were drafted before Hart and played similar roles last season (as did Osman and Zizic). It's additional game time to work on specific things prior to camp, no reason not to take advantage of it.

I mean, he played 4 years at Nova. Could've gone pro after his Junior year but wanted to return to a championship team.

I don't think anyone thinks of him as potential franchise player, like Sexton, or other lottery picks anyway. He's a 3 & D wing guy.

@Shanemansj13

do have to say--- a few things make this a lot beter this time aaround--- (i) lebron will be 34 in December, and (ii) the Cavs are a MILLION times better off this time around.

Osman and Sexton will be good guys to start with. Zizic, Clarkson, Hood, Nance are not a bad base either.
@Shanemansj13
Osman is 23.....its kind of insulting in a way for a 2nd year player who is 23 years old that has a real future in the NBA playing a TON of minutes in the summer league.

I think the Cavs did exactly waht they should with him- send him there for a couple games to play with 19 year old SExton a little bit- let him show that he clearly is head and shoulders above the vast majority of players in that league- and then let him get prepared for training camp.

Collins is 20 years old. Monk is 20 years old. Hart is 23 years old. You think Collins and Monk are gonna play in summer league 3 years from now?

Thats what i am saying- its incredibly rare to see a player of Hart's age, and draft positon go there and play in a ton of games and a ton of minutes in his 2nd year.

Osman is 23 as well- but only played 2 games- got a little run with SExton and then let the Billy Preston's of the world get their playing time in a setting that really does not matter much against pretty weak competition.

Osman is also 23. Holland (on the Cavs roster last year) is 29. Zizic is 21 going into his 2nd season with the Cavs.

23 is the normal age for collegiate graduates going into their 2nd pro season.

Interesting tidbit: Hart scored his first pro double-double vs the Cavs on 12/14/17.

and thats exactly why Osman barely played and they let Zizic go to Croatia for the world cup.

Playing a 23 year old 2nd year NBA player who is an actual lock to make a roster as much as Hart played is very very rare.

23 is the normal age for collegiate graduates going into their 2nd pro season.

yah- i think thats not true at all- 23 is OLD- i mean look at Ball and Ingram- or most any other player taken in the draft that has a future

A 4 year collegiate playing in 2 summer leagues usually means he was not good enough to come out early, and has a big leg up on guys who are 19 year old rooks.

For a 19 year old rook like Sexton to go toe to toe with a 23 year old 4 year college player in his 2nd season bodes well for Sexton and perhaps shows a limit to Hart's upside.

Age doesn't matter, he's still a second year pro, just like:

John Collins
Bird/Ojeleye
Caris Levert (3rd year)
Willy Hernangomez (3rd year)
Malik Monk
Brice Johnson
Zizic/Osman
Luke Kennard
Jordan Bell
TJ Leaf
Sindarius Thornwell
Ivan Rabb
Wayne Selden (3rd year)
Bam Adebayo
Frank Ntilikina
Cheick Diallo (3rd year)
Johnathan Issac
Dragan Bender (3rd year)
Josh Jackson
Wade Baldwin
Zach Collins
Harry Giles
OG Anunoby
Malachi Richardson

In fact, at least 14 players drafted before Hart in the 2017 draft are playing, and at least 25 total from that draft alone.

John Collins 20 years old
Bird/Ojeleye
Caris Levert (3rd year)
Willy Hernangomez (3rd year)- non prospect
Malik Monk- 20 years old
Brice Johnson- non prospect 24 years old
Zizic/Osman- barely played- 21 and 23 years old
Luke Kennard- 22 year old fringe prospect
Jordan Bell- 23 year old 2nd rounder fringe guy
TJ Leaf- 21 years old
Sindarius Thornwell- have no clue who this is- bagging groceries soon?
Ivan Rabb- have no clue who this is- bagging groceries soon?
Wayne Selden (3rd year)- have no clue who this is- bagging groceries soon?
Bam Adebayo- 20 years old
Frank Ntilikina- 19 years old
Cheick Diallo (3rd year) have no clue who this is- bagging groceries soon?
Johnathan Issac- 20 years old

OG Anunoby- 20 years old

Hart was probably the only guy who was guaranteed a roster spot in his 2nd year at his age of 23. It should be no surprise he played well. He has experience and was older than just about any of the real NBA talent that was at Summer League- and he played a TON. That is a very weird/rare combination and i think it speaks directly to the fact that the Lakers were trying to up his trade value- otherwise playing a 23 year old 2nd year player who was a first rounder and guaranteed a roster spot is very very rare.

Look at the list of guys you had out of the ones who actually have NBA talent.
Osman- 23- barely played
Zizic- 21 - barely played
TJ Leaf- 21
Bam - 20
Isaac- 20
Jackson- 20
Collins- 20
Giles- 20
OG- 20
Nkitlaina- 20
Monk - 20
Hart- played a ton 23 years old

one is not like the other. I mean unless you want to compare Hart to guys like Bender etc.

The point is Hart doesnt need to be playing all throughout summer league, like Osman or Zizic didnt. They only played two games to get a feel with the team.

Great point about the trade value; the only true reason to play him

no other guys besides non-prospects played nearly that many minutes/games at Hart's age.

The VAST majority of 2nd year guys you see there are players that are still super young, the Giles', Monk's, Jackson's, Bam's, OG's, etc. unless they are non prospects.

yah-- non prospects like Holland will play minutes....those type of guys are the core of the Summer League. Basically Quad A players if you like a baseball comparison.

I mean- Dragic Bender played for the Suns, and he is 23 and in his, i think 3rd year, but he has been a colossal disappointment. He was a real prospect at one time but at this point his stock has crashed.
