Where do the Spurs go from here?

As the regular season winded down in the final weeks, I had been praying the Nuggets would get in and get a shot as GS, for Denver had always played them tough even when they were bad. The Spurs, on the other hand, just didn't match up with them at all. I had predicted a GS sweep but was glad the Spurs were able to get one in Pop's absence.

Now the question, where do the Spurs go from here? For the last year and a half, I had laughed at the notion of Kawhi Leonard being the difference between a title team and a team quickly ousted in the first round, and was eventually treated as a pariah for stating that particular opinion. They're just too good an organization to pin their title hopes on one player, and last I checked he's not LeBron.

As for Kawhi himself, I think the worst thing they could do is trade him for the sole purpose of getting something in return for him. If he were to leave as a FA, chances are you're going to have to rebuild anyway, especially given some of the aging spare parts on the roster.

As I've stated before, I like KCP for this team. He's coming off a career year shooting the ball, and he's just the type of "good" player, or diamond in the rough, that works well in a Pop system. Danny Green has been quite a soldier over the years, but it's become increasingly obvious over the last couple years that San Antonio needs more than just a glue guy at the two-guard spot.

All in all, they need to reload a bit and put themselves in a position where Kawhi is icing on the cake and not the cake itself.

I was thinking that this might be the last time we see the Spurs as a force for a while. With rumors of Kawhi to be traded, if so, SA becomes a desolate wasteland to FA. Less for the prospect of playing for pop. They have been in the playoffs for like 23 years or some shit. This will be the first time in a long time they will be in rebuild mode. I dont know if Leonard comes back, but if he doesnt, was nice knowing you SA.

This doesn't make sense at all to me. If he's given indication that he doesn't want to be there, you have to move him for assets. You just have to.

Kawhi and Pop will work things out. No doubt in my mind. He remains a Spur.

Pau needs to be traded. He says he has a lot of gas left in the tank but I don't see any indication of that, cause he was absolute dogshit the entire season. Besides one triple-double against the KINGS, he contributed basically nothing to this team. Somehow, some way, the Spurs need to get rid of that contract and get younger and more athletic at the PF/C position and that's one way to do it.

Patty needs to go too. Yeah, he had 18 points last night which is great. But he's too much of a defensive liability and he's not good at the end of games. He turns it over a lot, makes terrible shot decisions, can't guard a toothpick, and he just isn't good anymore. Maybe it's because he was forced to play out of position the entire year, but he started as the SG the last half of the year and still didn't contribute that much. The only plus is that when he and LaMarcus are on the court together, LaMarcus' production goes up a bit.

People are saying Parker needs to go but honestly, I think he needs this offseason to get his legs back under him. His jumper has looked awful these past few months and he just hasn't seemed all there. Once he gets a while to rest and rehab, like the offseason, I have no doubt he will be a reliable backup to DeJounte.

Speaking of DeJounte, he needs to improve his jumper. That's not a massive concern for me, because they have Chip Engelland. If he can fix Kawhi's broken jumper from out of college to what it is now, I have no doubt he can help DeJounte.

Lastly, draft a guy like Zhaire Smith. If he's available, take him. He's just what this team needs at the SG position.

Not sure what you expect from Parker. He's about to turn 36.

He showed shortly after he returned that he still had a lot left in him. I think he just needs this off-season to rest. He isn't obviously gonna be what he used to be, but he can be a solid backup.

I totally agree. If the Spurs could get Tatum, Rozier and some picks OR Fultz, Saric and some picks I think you have to do it.

I dream- but if the Cavs move up in the lotto id trade the rights to Ayton or Doncic or Jackson in a package for Kawhi as well.

Pop could do a lot of damage with a couple potential young studs like Tatum/Rozier or Fultz/Saric or Ayton/Osman plus a couple other picks.

I think it would also mean Aldridge would get dealt as well.

If they dealt Aldridge and Kawhi they could restock a lot of talent very very quickly.

it all comes down to Kawhi. If he wants to be there- the show goes on.

If he expresses that he wants to be somewhere else- then I think you have to consider a tear down. If Kawhi goes I would have to think Aldridge would be gone shortly thereafter for rebuilding type assets as well.

Ironically,

The Cavs trading for Kawhi is about 1,000,000 more times likely than the Lakers signing LBJ, George and Kawhi.

Nice to see you can call others out for being unrealistic though, especially when Wiggy literally began his post with "I dream", implying that his possibility was unrealistic.

Spurs future plans begin and end with Kawhi Leonard. They must figure where they stand with him before making future plans.

He is absolutely the difference between a first round playoff exit (or worse), and championship contention. This season proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt. What is uncertain is whether the Spurs will have enough to contend even WITH a healthy Kawhi given that so many of their guys are inching closer to retirement.

Trade Kawhi, also think Pop steps down as coach as well. Think we're in for a few poor seasons for the Spurs.

Do you honestly think you won this?

Really?

Because you claim I am upset?

You claim a lot of other dumb stuff too. This just gets added to a really long list. Again, you have done absolutely nothing here but write ignorant posts, and then claim victory when you get called out. Because obviously when I call you on your blatant stupidity I must be upset. LOL.

If you actually bothered me at all, I would have you on ignore. You don't. But go ahead and think what you want if it makes you feel better about yourself.
