The New York Post's Brian Costello was told the Jets could offer Kirk Cousins $60 million in the first year of his contract.

New York is reportedly "willing to pay whatever it takes" to land Cousins, so this does not come as a surprise. It also makes some sense for the Jets, who have the cap space to both front-load the contract and make moves to improve the rest of the roster. The Broncos, Vikings, and Cardinals are also teams to watch in the Cousins sweepstakes.

Wow
if you're Kirk Cousins, and you turn and look at your wife, your kids, you look ahead to grandkids..how can you justify turning away from an instant 60mil, with another 40-90 guaranteed, so long as you remain upright? Sure the @60mil he's earned thus far is a ton of money, but this us generational upon generational money, guaranteed. I mean..that's game changing stuff. You can talk about "winning " all you want and integrity, ethics, whatever..(I would counter all that with setting up you family for generations is much more moral and ethical than being selfish about some trinket you MIGHT win in a game).

If this is accurate, welcome to the Jets Mr. Cousins

No chance you could turn away from it. If you believe in yourself, which all pro athletes should, then you wouldn't be afraid of where you play. Well... maybe Cleveland. But still.

Which is the only other team in position to make a comparative offer, so you'd still be choosing "winning'

and that's where we'd find out just how much is behind the desire to win a title for him. If he's for real, that won't be an issue

Its going to really mess up the QB market for a long time. Really hope the Jets aren't that stupid. Desperation has its limits.
Mehhh..I dunno that it'll screw up the market much, I'd say Jimmy G's is more of a skew on the market. The figures and length I've heard tossed around, average about 28-31 mil a year, which was about what was expected all along, so the overall value of the deal is more or less in line with market expectations. It may change the structure of the deals within that market, for sure though.

Personally, I think its a genius move by the Jets, should it go down. They've got the space, and space left over to still go after a couple other bigtime names, so the massive 60m hit in year one is easily absorbed. And then going forward, since all the front end money is gone, they'll only be in the 20-25mill range for the remainder of the contract. I actually think its a brilliant move for both, although I would agree, fully guarantying a contract sets a dangerous precedent. But, MLB does it, they're still alive and well.

Guaranteed money has already messed up the market. Not just at QB.
There's a lot of mediocre players who got paid without getting paid. If ya know what I mean.

Yup hard to turn down money that will help both your present family and the future generations. Sure he wants to play for a "winner", who would not, but that is only if money isn't like day and night. IDK if what we hear is accurate, but at the end of the day the team with the need, desire and cap space will sign him and those that have limited cap space will look else where. I thought the Browns, but Jets surely could make this happen.

Yeppers. And I have a feeling the after McCarrons win on his grievance, Hue (his former coach) is locked in on AJ, so they'll have gobs of cap space to throw at defensive free agents or whatever

Agreed..McArron, Kizor sit n learn, future can be whichever takes the reigns...grab Barkley and a bookend for Garrett, it could work (which is why the Browns probably won't do it)

CBS has the Browns and Giants taking QBs with the first two picks and then the Bills trading up to 5th to take a QB. After that they also have the Jets taking a QB at 6th and New Orleans taking one at 28th.

If Cousins signs with the Jets and McCarren goes to the Browns, it would change quite a bit in the draft.

I lost a good buddy right before Christmas last year, so in honor of him I will be rooting for the Browns this year. Kevin Costner better come through with this Draft Day.
