I disagree. I will name a blocking TE that had soft enough hands to catch (but only known for blocking)
& I am not talking of(NFC East) Dan Campbell, but an older TE Dan Warren. Its funny when I hear nowadays what makes a good TE.
We were discussing tangible offensive stats as well as blocking for TEs. The point being if a TE, WR, RB put up great #s they did so because of the team not one great player.

As for TEs that's why in my opinion a guy like Graham will never be considered an elite TE.

Well I always try to remain as unbiased as possible when it relates to the Pats and I answered maybe because there are some variables that need to be considered. I do feel he is the biggest threat to a defense the league has ever seen, I do believe because of his size and his often overlooked speed for his size that he is the hardest TE to cover one on one. But I also feel he has benefited greatly by having the best QB to ever play as his teammate. Best ever no, not yet. Hardest to defend yes I think so. In the end could he be best ever, I think that is within reach.

The knock on Gronk may be durability, and longevity. I doubt, given the way he handles himself off the field, that he will last very much longer. But in terms of performance when healthy, clearly among the best ever, and sure to be a HOF TE.

This isn't even close.

Tony Gonzalez: 17 years, missed 1 game, 2012 targets, 1325 rec, 15127 yards, 111 TDs, 14 pro bowls, 6x all-pro

Gronk: 8 years, missed 26 games, 722 targets, 474 rec, 7179 yards, 77 TDs, 5 pro bowls, 4x all-pro

No point in projecting his stats to 17 years, as his injury history will prevent him from even coming close. Gronk is ahead in ypc and TD rate, but those will likely get closer with age. Hard to argue against Gonzalez' health and longevity.

Actually it is pretty close when you consider years played. No player can do anything about the injuries Gronk got injured badly in college it's part of the game.

It's part of his style of play as well. TEs don't have to be bulldozers.

Tony had the longevity though. At this rate I don't see Gronk lasting. As demonstrated by the Jags, he'll be targeted for helmet to helmet shots to knock him out of games. The opposing team will gladly eat the 15 yards if it means no more Gronk and they will quietly pay the offending players fine.

Expect it in the Super Bowl.

Okay end of conversation we all know where it goes from here, once you read an asinine comment like that.

Gronk is typically a straight line athlete due to his size. He's not able to avoid hits like a more agile athlete like Gonzalez. Gronk's size brings a lot of good to the game, but that is one of the negatives.

Gronk's really good. But Tony Gonzalez was a beast that didn't get hurt as much (or least that i can remember).

The game today also uses a different type of TE and passes much more.
