By the end of next year he'll own every record for a TE and won't have had to play 30 years to get them.
So Gronk is going to have 850 receptions, 8,000 yards and 35 TDs next year? I know who I am taking in the first round of my fantasy leagues!

He's great, but the best ever ? That's hard to say, because I think a lot of TE would look really good having Brady throwing to them every week ....

Tony Gonzalez first 8 seasons: 127 games, 570 catches, 6905 yards, 12.1 Y/C, 54 touchdowns, 54.4 YPG
Shannon Sharpe first 8 seasons: 123 games, 465 catches, 5991 yards, 12.9 Y/C, 34 touchdowns, 48.7 YPG
Rob Gronkowski first 8 seasons: 102 games, 474 catches, 7179 yards, 15.1 Y/C, 76 touchdowns, 70.4 YPG

Gronk has played around 20 less games than both Sharpe and Gonzalez in his first 8 seasons yet exceeds them both in nearly every statistical category.

The NFL has never seen a stretch like this by a tight end. Gronk is the type of player who can change a game. Not to mention he's arguably one of the best blocking TEs in the NFL as well. He's an amazing all around player.

If he wants to be considered the best all time he needs to play a bit longer, but he has the best 8 year stretch by any TE in NFL history and I don't believe it's even close.

I would take a healthy Gronk in his prime over any other TE in NFL history, personally.
Antonio Gates had an 8 year stretch that put up 569 receptions, 7394 yards and 74 TDs.

He wasn't nearly as good a blocker as gronkowski. Nice try

No he wasn't. But he was faster and as good a receiver. They could even line him up in the bavkfield.

What a shame on both accounts.

AH a POS idiot.

As for Gronk imagine if he could've stayed healthy the numbers he may have been able to put up?

Then combine them two if BB could've made it work under the cap.

Oh well we'll never know.

Couldn't the same be said for most of the greats? Whether it be a TE, WR, QB or RB with a dominant line? It's a team sport. Someone has to block, throw a pas...

Well except for Arog who does it all himself. Am I right?

He could have been, if he didn't spend his whole career with a game manager at QB. :rockford:

If Gronk his season averages...

It will take him 7 more seasons to pass Gonzo's receiving yards.
It will take him 12 season to pass Gonzo in TDs.

In 17 seasons (217 games) Gronk would have 13,457 receiving yards.
If he goes to 270 games (same as Gonzo), he would have 17.188 receiving yards (over 2,000 more yards).

This is if he continues his career averages.

Rob Gronkowski
  • 8 seasons
  • 102 games (12.8 gams/season)
  • 474 receptions
  • 7,179 receiving yards
  • 76 TDs
  • 70.4 Y/G
  • 15.1 AVG
  • 897 Y/season
  • 9.5 TDs/season
  • .75 TDs/game
  • 3 fumbles
Tony Gonzales
  • 17 seasons
  • 270 games (15.9 games/season)
  • 1,325 receptions
  • 15,127 receiving yards
  • 111 TDs
  • 56.0 Y/G
  • 11.4 AVG
  • 889 Y/season
  • 6.5 TDs/season
  • .41 TD/game
  • 6 fumbles

I find it interesting that people are bringing up that he has Tom Brady. Do you know who the starting TE was before Gronk? The TE averaged better #s for the Browns in 2010-14 than he did from 2004-09 for the Patriots.

I disagree. I will name a blocking TE that had soft enough hands to catch (but only known for blocking)
& I am not talking of(NFC East) Dan Campbell, but an older TE Dan Warren. Its funny when I hear nowadays what makes a good TE.
