If they have same/similar speed then it makes a big difference when the RB has a step on the defender.

Nebraska has lacked the big play threat. I'm tired of our skill positions being run down from behind. The 90's teams were big play teams. By big plays I mean 30 yds or more. Big plays can flip a scoreboard right now and give momentum.

A lot of that big play potential also includes the o-line and wr's sustaining there blocks down field. It's not always about pure speed.

Just long enough for that speed to squirt past.

Have you missed all the Nebraska players getting caught from behind the last 10 years or so?
That's on the rare occasions they even get in the open field.

Just by seeing film I can't say I'm sold yet on Bell. I'm curious to know if Tre Bryant's surgery cured his old man knees, because if he comes back healthy I would still think might be the best RB available. If anything, Bell, Bradley, and Bryant would make for some great competition for the starting job. I don't see much of a role for Ozigbo other than a goal line/short yardage back, and Wilbon will probably only get special teams time or maybe 3rd down back time at best.

That’s what Oregon was all about while Frost and Chip were there. Moving fast enough that the first level couldn’t get set and make a tackle, then you get that speed in the open and it’s over.

We saw how dangerous that can be with Taylor Martinez, though we didn’t really run much up-tempo.....we just relied on his speed in general. When he found an opening it was over. It will be nice to have an uptempo Offense with a mobile QB and a fast RB.

Also, we shan’t forget about Spielman. I still believe he is going to work wonders for Frost’s Offense. Both with creative run plays and short passing plays.

Have you seen in the last ten years how many defensive players dicks have been nocked in the dirt by our oline? You want big time runs you need to have the blocking. Nebraska has been lacking in this for some time. Roy Helu is the last I-back I can recall.

I've probably been the biggest critic of that here since SportsHoopla was created. I barely remember the last o-lineman Nebraska had as a winner or even a 'finalist' for the Outland or Lombardi awards. Raiola (2000), Fonoti (2001)? That's a long drought for a program that was 'next man up' for 30 years.
I expect that culture to change under Frost.
I still contend it's as much about putting the pieces together in a system. Getting the right players in the right spots and having them execute without shooting themselves in the foot. Nebraska has gotten guys in the open field, but they've all too often been run down from behind. That's 7 points that never made it to the scoreboard and another 3 downs of opportunity to shoot themselves in the foot.
I'm just talking about beating the Minnesota's, Northwestern's, Iowa's, Northern Illinois', and McNeese St's here.
To win conference titles and NC's yes, they will have to get FAR better up front on both sides of the ball.

Helu AA Tito and Rex are top 10 rushers all time at NU, they played under some real shit OL’s, the RB makes a big difference. There’s no report whatsoever that Bryant’s career is over wtf, we need immediate depth at the position, normally indicated by chasing juco’s

They also played on teams that consistently shot themselves in the foot and for head coaches that couldn't put all the pieces together. The offenses never had any true identity.
The turnover margin shit is huge and needs to change before Nebraska ever gets back to competing for conference championships.

HP52 reported that Tre Bryant’s career is likely over.

I can get you a link to that report if you like.
