Don't think this would be a good move. Been out of the game for nearly a decade, hasn't been a college coach in nearly 3 decades, and wasn't overly impressive as HC in the NFL.

Like Gruden, I'd imagine you'd see a coach struggling to adapt to how much the game has evolved since he was coaching.

Shit - Didn't see this on my phone, but posted the same thing.

Stupid move from Sun Devils if they go through with this. I'm not sure why people believe these coaches that have been out of the game for so long still have it (Cowher, Gruden, Edwards,...).

Plus, the idea of hiring a 63 year old coach should like a band aid. They might as well have stuck with CTG.

I can't imagine this working, unless he finds some really modern coordinators

This is more ancient than the Dennis Erickson at Oregon State idea, at least he could bring in a loaded group of assistants to rebuild that

Whatever happened to hiring a promising young OC/DC and seeing what happens? It has worked out for OU lately.

I've always thought Herm would be a really good recruiter for a college team. Bet he is fantastic in a recruits living room.

I agree. His personality has always kinda reminded me of foghorn Leghorn

Saban is 66 :noidea:
Not saying Herm is too old, he's had the time off to rest, that's for sure

I wonder how many years Saban has left. I know he hasn't dropped off ability wise.

I don't know if it is a better hire than Mike Norvell though. Young guy, 2 years of head coaching experience at Memphis [8-5, 10-1]. He was a coach for Arizona State from 2012-2015, running the offense.

ASU just needs a salesman to lead that program to national prestige. Just pitch to every 5 star recruit that can't get into USC to come to Tempe. Tempe > every Pac 12 city.
