Florida ranks 22nd in the US in terms of area. So it's small in comparison to California which ranks 3rd.

True, but all the California recruits are either in San Fran/Oakland or Los Angeles/San Diego. You could drive the 5 hours between San Francisco and Oregon and pass nary a 3 star. Same with the 5 hours between the two. You have to be pretty much be in the Everglades to not be around recruits in Florida.

I don't know, it seems simple to me. If you are going to cheat on your wife there is alot younger women to do it with at UCLA than in Florida. I mean, that's the only reason you'd choose either since neither school is going to win a national title in the near future.

History is probably a bigger argument if you were born prior to 1990, but Florida is definitely new money. I take Florida over UCLA, only for the fact the administration is behind the program. That and Florida is the big name in state. UCLA is more the little brother to USC

I see all these people saying it would be easier to succeed at UCLA but then I look at when the last Florida National Championship was.

Then I look at when the last UCLA National Championship was.......

This comparison presumes that both programs define “success” in the same way.

And I think you’ve actually made the point you’re arguing against. At Florida boosters and fans want a national championship. At UCLA? Sure they’d love to have one, but you can be coach for life if you’re competitive against USC and can win the Pac-12 and a Rose Bowl every once in a while.

Beating Bama usually does mean a pretty good shot at the NC. So yeah, an SECCG win is what we want. (and a little offense!)

Taxes in california suck big fat ass.

Not to mention florida cares about their football program more than UCLA does.

If someone.. and i mean anyone that ends up being the coach at Florida has to understand 1 thing.. Winning.. we expect it..and won't settle for less.. my expectations are not unrealistic.. the goal is to win.. we don't hire people to lose ..otherwise anybody would coach.. if you don't win and don't do something different to try to win then you need to move on... i expect to compete for a NC every year.. while i understand that may not necessarily work out year in and year out i expect to be competitive at that level. so i don't want some arrogant ass that thinks his shit don't stink and that he's the best thing since sliced bread but isnt willing to fire people or change things to get wins .. i want someone that will get these kids to work for it, believe in themelves, in their team and work towards that goal of winning. no my expectations are not ridiculous.. the point of playing a game is to win.. if your not committed in that mind set.. please take your weak sauce to some where else.. and personally if something isn't announced here shortly im not completly sure if that coach even exists other then Saban.. i want relentless, i want control i want discipline.. i demand it.. i expect it.

Who gives a shit about land area? It’s the third most populous state now after California and Texas.

If land area mattered, Alaska would be a recruiting Mecca.

Breaking: top recruits only live in places where people live.

You don't seem to understand the argument, Florida is a relatively small state with a high population. The population density of Florida is actually greater than that of California. So it's easier for colleges within the state to recruit the large number of HS prospects in the state.

And everyone seems to be ignoring my other argument -- that the south in general has more talent combined than the western region of the country. California is huge in terms of # of prospects but the neighboring states are not.

And the other part of my argument -- UCLA has to deal with one of the best programs in the country, USC, right in the same town. "Home town" kids aren't even likely to want to come to UCLA.

Then you should phrase your argument differently, and say that population density makes recruiting easier. Of course traffic can be worse as well, but at least you can do it by car and notbfly everywhere.

I don't think I phrased my argument wrong at all. Florida is a smaller state with a huge amount of recruits and the 3 major schools, FSU, UF and Miami are spread out in the state. Whoever lands at UCLA is going to have a much harder time winning than whoever lands at UF.

Easier to win in the PAC than the SEC.

Plus Kelly is a left coast guy that makes it more appealing. Plus Kelly already has contacts and has recruited the West Coast so it's not so much which is the better job but which is the better job for Kelly.

it shouldn't be easy.. easy is for people who have no drive.. if it we're easy why doesn't ucla win year in and year out.. Florida may not be a traditional basketball school but we are getting there.. also baseball.. kids come to schools that succeed.. we are that school

Los Angeles County would be the 9th most populous state...if it were a state...and that doesn't even include Orange County.

There are literally 37 4 star recruits or better on the 2018 247 composite in Southern California, which is 37 of the 41 4+ star recruits in California. USC might be the first choice for a lot of them, but they couldn't take half if they didn't take anyone from anywhere else. Football recruits in Cali are predominately in Southern California between San Diego and Santa Barbara....an area much smaller than the recruiting grounds of Florida.

There are 45 in all of Florida and 7 of them are at IMG Academy, which gets recruited by every school in the country...including USC/UCLA. The recruits are also spread out pretty evenly among major population centers..Tampa and Miami being the two hotbeds, but Orlando and Jacksonville are also big and there are always some in the Panhandle.

Tampa and Miami are 279 miles apart...and Tampa is still two hours from Gainesville. Santa Barbara and San Diego are 218 miles apart. If you wanted to get really specific, there are 27 4 star or better recruits with 60 miles of UCLA. There aren't any 4 stars within 80 miles of Gainesville. Hell, there aren't 3 in the Florida top 250 with 60 miles of Gainesville. There are more 3 stars within walking distance of UCLA.

The only two coaches that won consistently at Florida are headed to the Hall of Fame.

Not saying you can't win at Florida, but if you do, it will take more than recruiting, and you will have to go further to get them.

well in that case both usc and ucla should be competing for a NC every year it shouldn't matter whos coaching..
