International Games

Should the NFL keep playing games internationally?

  • Heck no.

  • Yeah, keep it how it is.

  • Yeah, but only in North America.

  • Yes and they should add more.

Todd Gurley rips the NFL for the international games, says they need to stop. It's about time that somebody said it! He's so right! I think playing in Mexico City isn't terrible...especially if they schedule it where a southwest team is the "Home team", but games in London are ridiculous. Especially doing so many there.

Time would be better spent fixing/improving the domestic product before exporting mierda worldwide.

Yeah, when they wander off the North American continent they are doin too much. Than again, I guess with NFL owners and everyone else seeing a real possibility that in 20 or so years. Tackle football could be a thing of the past. The owners are thinking we need to squeeze out every bit of money from everywhere and anywhere that we can right now.

It's bullshit and it's especially bad when they have West Coast teams going over.

Well they better be careful. Just read that after the TV ratings dropped 8% last year they are down by another 7.5% thus far this season (granted as stated in another thread - they may not be measuring ratings accurately in the current multi-device era).

All of these changes (games in Europe, less hitting etc) can have some type of positive effect but can also negatively affect ratings especially in this country. There are already lots of other reasons why many folks (not the type of folks who post in these type of forums) are getting turned off by the NFL. Their greed may contribute to lowering the popularity of their sport.

I think Meixco City is a bit higher than Denver, 7500ft?

Went with Option 1. If they wanted to go international go closer to home like Toronto or Mexico City.

Altitude and pollution.....

Patriots get Denver one week and Mexico the next, 2 mile high games in a row....

Would probably make sense to remain at elevation between. They'll have adapted to it.

Gonna put the whole team in Colorado for the week? Bet they'll be blazing their faces off.

They should make it really interesting and play a game in Syria.

I agree, but wouldn't that be more "continental" than international? To go truly global is impractical because of travel time. London is bad enough, places like China would be undoable if not impossible.

My daughter is currently dating a man who was born in Manchester England. Although he has been living in the states for the last 15 years, he has gone back on a few occasions to visit family and some of his "mates". He says that American Football is extremely popular in England and is getting more and more popular with each passing year.

Only a matter of time before there is an NFL Europe IMO

Yep, a high-school buddy now lives in London and he has season tickets to the games, which now is four per season :D

If you are a West coast team playing in New England or New York there is very little difference in travel time compared to an East coast team flying to London. Maybe an hour difference is about all. Now if you are a southern team like N.O. or Dallas or even K.C. the travel time to London is much bigger deal. But most East coast teams aren't getting any worse treatment Travel time wise) than the Niners or Chargers get any time they have to play in Baltimore, NY, or Boston.

Right, but the Rams are playing there and the Raiders have. Makes no sense.
