Exactly. I was REALLY hoping for DE badly, but I didn't really love the Taco pick and I did want the BPA first and foremost. They passed on the CB GB took and even stated he was the BPA on their board which pissed me off when passing on him. I think a couple of the DEs went right before us (UCLA and Missouri?) and that messed us up a little. I also wanted Noah Spence where we took J Smith last year - with luck could have been the difference in a playoff win last year? But, it's been a few weeks for Taco and Smith is still is a shell of the player he will be for us at some point. We all knew Smith wouldn't be great to start this year and I think most of us expected Taco to not make much of an impact for at least the first half of this year. So Patience is the key with draft picks and we need to remember our few hours of watching these kids play in College doesn't make us draft experts and the team has earned the benefit of the doubt lately. I'm still fine with every pick this team has made lately. I can't complain about a few I would have done differently when a guy like Collins was someone I wasn't even considering. I still give our scouts an "A" lately even if hindsight says someone better was still around because hindsight isn't available when you are on the clock.

The scouts have earned kudos......but sometimes the pick makers make me scratch my head. I am rooting hard for Taco and Jaylon. What else can I do?

Absolutely. The key is how we feel 3 years later not in week 6 of year one. There was a lot of talk here and on social media about drafting players that will contribute day 1 and that's just short-sighted. That's not how a team should be drafting and that is something fans (and maybe Jerry) think about more than NFL teams. We have screwed our cap and that made our big FA signings Carroll and Paea - who both seem complete busts as of today. You fill needs through FA and we couldn't. The draft is for the next 5 or 10 years. If we aren't happy with our DL or DB play we can't blame a kid we took 5 months ago when there were plenty of players available on the free agent market. We need to blame the decisions that kept us from being able to do that. Now that our cap is finally getting better we should be able to go out and do something next offseason. And maybe in the second half of the year some young kids (Lewis, Awuzie, Taco, Smith, Woods) will all step up and make us think how our scouts did another good job with these drafts.

No arguments here. That is why Taco and Jaylon are still in the "I support you" category.

The two FA we got this year were garbage. Well one wasn't garbage but more like really bad damaged goods.

I know everyone keeps wanting that next sexy pick at DE.
I have been wanting some disruption up the middle in a DT.
We have been drafting DEs seemingly every year without much regards to the middle.
I want to know who is the badest DT in the draft next year, & hope we start looking there. (Although the next Von Miller wouldnt hurt my feelings)

Dallas just doesnt seem like they can be players in FA only because they have been drafting INCREDIBLY well. Did Zach Martin get a new deal yet? Because hes gonna be big money, Zeek is gonna ask for 100 million in 2 years, and Dak is going to want 150 million in about 28 months. I always said there should be some cap discount when you are resigning players you drafted.

I agree. I wanted Fletcher Cox so bad in the draft. I knew the Eagles had a great pick. We do need a run stuffing, pass rushing DT.

Zeke should be careful what he asks for

I know he played a lot of 3-4, but I think Navarro Bowman is exactly what this defense needs. Would love to see him here

I agree. Jerruh needs to make a deal. Just not a big fan of Hitchens and wilson.

We lost FOUR DBs....And replaced them with what?

We drafted an LB last year with a second round pick.......He's a rookie this season and probably not at full strength.
A PROJECT ........Bruce Carter comes to mind

We had a fairly poor defense last season.

DALLAS had a suspended DE.

And we've had controversy after controversy......THANKS JERRY

We have a tougher schedule.......and an idiot head coach who doesn't know anything about game strategy and clock management.

And again, why is this a surprise?

I think some harsh realities are setting in for this Cowboys team.

Tyron Smith is declining. And you can rationalize it as he is just dealing with injuries, if you want. Unfortunately back injuries are a mother-fucker, and they don't just get better - almost always worse. As big of a human being as Smith is, and as much abuse as he takes, I just don't see how his back will improve while playing football. Of course I am not a doctor, and this is just my opinion, but I have been calling this since early last season.

Dez, as many have noted, is not the same guy anymore. And I wonder that with Dak's limitations with accuracy, if Dez will ever produce like a true #1 - let alone an elite WR. Dez's game is all about positioning and out muscling and out jumping defenders. Dez was so successful with Romo because Tony could put the ball pretty much exactly where he wanted to inside of 30 yards. Dak's accuracy, in terms of ball placement leaves a bit to be desired.

Frederick has been getting beat a lot more than usual this year, and he just has not been his dominant self. I have no clue why. Martin hasn't been up to his own standards, either. Strange. Cooper/Green and Collins need a lot of work, period.

Jaylon Smith, I just don't see what a lot of you guys see in him. Granted, he has only played 5 games, but he has been with the organization for a year and a half. Some of the reads, and lines he takes to the ball make me scratch my head. I thought we were getting a more cerebral player, nothing about his play to this point makes me think he is due to break out in the near future.

I think it's obvious that Elliott has been greatly affected by the investigation, the hearings, and all the other bull shit that goes with his situation. For his own sake, if Elliott didn't do it, I support him fighting these allegations. That said, if it is clear that he has no legal remedy going forward, I would hope that he and his advisors just take the suspension and get this mess behind them, and look to getting back on track in 2018.

Linehan's play calling this year is leaving a lot to be desired. I wonder though, how much of it is Dak changing plays at the line, pre-snap?

The rookies outside of Woods and Lewis have been disappointing to this point. Awuzie is starting to concern me with all the little injuries he is racking up.

For the love of God, what does Marinelli see in Jeff Heath? I don't understand the insistence on playing him in the back end as the deep Safety - he has proven time and again he is not the man for the job.

What a frustrating start to the season. We should be 4-1. Dallas just has not been getting much out of their supposed play makers.

That's a pretty glass half empty take. I think this team will likely win a Super Bowl in the next 3-4 years. I haven't thought that in a long time

Hell of an assement!!! I agree except about jaylon. This is his first year and he is not at full strength yet. Next year will tell me more about Jaylon. Jeff heath cant tackle, cant cover, he is such a huge liability at safety. On that last greenbay touch down, he reacted like usual, too slow. Unfortunately, not much we can do about defensive personel for this year. The coaches made the choices. I am really starting to question Marinelli as a coordinator.

It's not a glass half full or glass half empty view, IMO -- okay, maybe as far as it pertains to Jaylon Smith. It's Just what I see on the field. Which of my points do you disagree with, and why?

As far as Heath goes, I don't understand the fascination the coaches have with this guy? Jeff Heath is a premier athlete, no doubt, but premier athletes are a dime a dozen in the NFL. I think Woods can step in today and do a better a job.

Heath is a special teams, and limited sub package player. And honestly, he might be a little expensive for that role.

Great special teamer though.

I'm assuming sports talk radio is a big thing in Dallas. If so, aren't there discussions about Heath not being very good and that he shouldn't be playing and if so does anyone actually disagree - hosts, callers, etc...It seems so obvious that he never should have been given the job and should not be starting. Didn't we all know this before the year started? Haven't we known this for years? Yet they brought no FA of any value in when they absolutely had options and opportunity to do so and still don't seem willing to sit Heath down in favor of Woods or perhaps Awuzie.
