As NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport mentioned, Brissett was "showcased" during New England's final preseason game. Likely a stretch to make the roster, Belichick was looking to bolster Brissett and get something back for him in lieu of an outright cut.

so they found one team to believe that 4th preseason game meant something.

the link also says had the pats cut him (or on the colts) sooner, he may start week 1 in indy.

i said they would no way have 3 QB's and that jacoby would be cut.

he was going to be, and then the colts came calling...and said "take our cut for yours".
