3rd base has been a black hole for the Sox ever since they let Beltre walk. They got a good season out of Youk, but they probably would have been better off keeping him at 1st and resigning Beltre.
shaw has 22 HR and 70 RBI

he plays 3rd

Seems like you're suggesting they weren't platooning him.

From 5/29 through 7/3, he didn't start 9 of 31 games. Did you know they were platooning him?
yes

he still projects to 20/90ish

i said hes missed a handful of games (sat)...thats all. he projects to 149 hits as well, based on the same platooning stats.

hes had less than 3 AB's 7 times in games hes played.

Players being sensitive about commentary is not unique to the Red Sox. Friends and wives of ballplayers often relay remarks heard on television. At Fenway, there has been clubhouse disgruntlement about Eckersley’s style for some time. For Price, the tipping point came when he learned Eckersley said “Yuck” when Eduardo Rodriguez’s poor stats were flashed on the NESN screen after a rehab start in Pawtucket June 29.

On the day of the episode, Price was standing near the middle of the team aircraft, surrounded by fellow players, waiting for Eckersley. When Eckersley approached, on his way to the back of the plane (Sox broadcasters traditionally sit in the rear of the aircraft), a grandstanding Price stood in front of Eckersley and shouted, “Here he is — the greatest pitcher who ever lived! This game is easy for him!’’

When a stunned Eckersley tried to speak, Price shot back with, “Get the fuck out of here!’’

Many players applauded.

Eckersley made his way to the back of the plane as players in the middle of the plane started their card games. In the middle of the short flight, Eckersley got up and walked toward the front where Sox boss Dave Dombrowski was seated. When Eckersley passed through the card-playing section in the middle, Price went at him again, shouting, “Get the fuck out of here!’’

Mitch Moreland sucks.

A guy with a career 98 wRC+ is a below average hitter this year. Color me shocked. He has one full season with a wRC+ north of 100 (117 in 2015).

It isn’t unusual for the Red Sox to bring a 20-year-old prospect into the heat of a pennant race, as club promoted Xander Bogaerts in 2013 and Yoan Moncada just last season. As WEEI.com’s Rob Bradford points out, however, he difference between those callups and today’s news about Boston’s promotion of Rafael Devers is that Bogaerts and Moncada were being counted on just as supporting pieces to an already-strong roster. In Devers’ case, he is coming into a Red Sox lineup that has struggled with consistency all season and has been thoroughly lacking at third base. It’s quite a bit of pressure for such a young player, and Bradford feels that the multiple slumping regulars in the Sox lineup need pick things up, regardless of how Devers performs.

Here’s more from around the AL East…

  • The Red Sox have been scouting Reds shortstop Zack Cozart, CSNNE.com’s Evan Drellich reports (via Twitter), though with the caveat that teams around the league are doing their due diligence on many options at this time of year. MLBTR’s Jeff Todd cited Cozart as a possible creative choice for Boston’s third base problem last month, and obviously the Sox will continue to explore possibilities until they get a sense of what Devers can do in the bigs. Cozart has been on fire at the plate this year, though as Zach Buchanan of the Cincinnati Enquirer notes, the shortstop is still being careful about re-aggravating the right quad injury that led to a brief DL stint in June.

I'm so sick of hearing about the Price/Eckersley non-story. I don't know what there is to talk about, the Red Sox players are on Price's side. It's only alive because people like CHB keep talking about it. I like Eck as an analyst, but he can be an asshat sometimes and comes off as being condescending.

I'm not linking because I refuse to give CHB any clicks.
