I don't agree. I not only don't see us as sellers if we are in the wild card hunt, but I think we will be buyers again and we will not only not gain prospeects, but we will lose one or more. If we are buyers we will probably lose one or more of Guzman, Sadzeck, Mendez, and Taveras.

My take is: the 2017 Rangers are already the result of the Hamels and Lucroy trades. The current roster, barring injuries, was constructed to be a team "in the hunt." It shouldn't take another big trade or two to get it there, and personally, after those two trades, I don't want to see more prospects sent out. And I don't see this team, as it's currently playing, as just being one Cliff Lee trade away from being a serious contender.

Ya know, an awful lot depends on how this team continues between now and the AS break as to what we do/don't do.

Keep in mind, right now, Darvish has pitched terrific, Martin/Griffin have both pitched pretty well, Cashner/Martinez have been adequate, and Ross is on the horizon. Plus, hope-of-hope, Hamels recovers and regains some of his lost magic.

With the return of Beltre, this should really help our lineup, and become a stabilizing offensive force.

If all this happens, it'll be a dogfight.....And I only used if one time. ha
Today has offered some good thought. Good reading and thought on which way we may or not go. At this point, I must confess I don't have any idea where this team will lead us. Saddles named some pitching prospects that I would hate to lose. You mentioned our current pitching and Ross on the way and then Gomez, Hamels, and Beltre coming back all sounds GREAT. Buy/sell depends on when JD thinks is the best year to shoot the moon. :noidea:

You could argue that the arrival of Gomez, Beltre, Ross, and Hamels would feel like a deadline trade. That's some serious reinforcements right there.

Do you think we would need to make a trade to get back to the level we were at at the end of last season? Beltran, Desmond, and Moreland are all missing. Diekman is gone and Dyson is essentially gone. Colby is gone also.

You're not factoring in Gallo tho. I think his production trumps whatever Beltran gave us. Napoli's average isn't as good as Mitch, but I think naps power numbers are better such as HR and RBI. People were down on nap a month ago, but he's starting to do better.

This team now should already be on par with last year's team, if everyone is performing as expected. I guess my answer is: I don't want to make another trade just to get where we were at the end of last season... I'd only want to make another sizable trade to go from "in the mix," as they were last year, to "the team to beat." And I don't see this team being "the team to beat" even with one sizable trade as buyers.

One good thing is it looks like the AL east is pretty strong this year. We don't have to worry as much about the blue Jays knocking us out again if we make the playoffs.

Those dongheads are the least of my concerns right now.

I understand. Just reporting that with the Yankees good again and the Orioles still tough. I dont think we will see them in the post season if we make it. Which is definitely a good thing. Those guys have our number for some reason.

Good point. Don't think there is a market even the Rangers could "afford" to get to "the team to beat."

I once heard "you gotta know when to hold dem, know when to fold em. Know when to walk away and know when to run..."
