Is Nail Yakupov worth a gamble? Or do we already have too many guys up front?
too many in the sense of #s but in the end not enough talent....

If Yakupov isn't going to cost us why not? If he plays hard ball, pass... unless Hall recommends him.

In my head, I've already shipped out Camm....

I always liked Ovie but agree. Too many miles on him. He still would be the best player on the team today but the asking price would be too steep.

Not sure on Yakupov. Its always tough with Russian players. Look at Montreal and Radulov. They signed him for a 1 year deal and he had a solid season and led the team in scoring in the playoffs. That was somewhat a gamble and it paid off.

Yeah I expect Quenneville and McCleod to make serious pushes this year and can't take opportunities from them.

Agree with you on Cammalleri though. You hope he can rebound but when I think up potential lines he just doesn't seem to fit in. Hypothetical lineup:

Hall-Zacha-Palmieri
Kovy-Zajac-Henrique
Wood-Quenneville-McLeod

Him and Bennett will probably get priority on that 3rd line (Bennet did show signs of life toward the end of the season). If Cammalleri gets a spot and struggles out of the gate how long do you hold those guys back?

And this is without factoring in our number 1.

Looking at this now I actually think we wind up moving McLeod or Quenneville. We have Zacha, Zajac, Henrique, McLeod, Quenneville and whoever we draft at number 1, all centers. Something's gotta give and they're probably our 2 best trade chips. Quenneville is not a Shero guy so he'd be the most likely candidate. If we could package him and some picks for help on the blue line I think I could live with it.

Yea, I'd like to give Q a fair shot here... let him play before being moved(if)....

McLeod is sorts of excitement for me. Can't wait!

I'm ready to move on.... Something just twists my stomache about Camm this year after the addition of Hall. Something was not right outside the Ice... then throw in his actual play on the ice, something is up n off.... Move him, release him or sit him... he's not having that impact like he did year 1.

Hall - Zacha - Palmieri seems like the current #1
Kovy - Zajac - Henrique.... at the moment, thats what I can think of. Its amazing that outside of Camm, a would be Kovy would be our only other true LW. wow....
Wood - Q - McLeod..... i'll entertain that...

Bring back Blandisi, Noesen, Bennett for the 4th line....

No way i'm moving McLeod yet.... no way jose.

Quenneville, I'd like to see him play a good chunk of the season before I feel I could agree on the trade. Unless there's a return thats a must have.

Wonder If Washington would deal Carlson for kovy and can throw a 3rd rounder to them. He's a year away from ufa and they could then resign shatenkirk. Nj then signs the hometown boy and there's our 1d. Way better then shatenkirk too.

I feel kovy will end up signing a deal here and staying until the deadline before he's moved. Not because teams aren't interested but because I think shero knows he's worth more then just a single pick teams will offer for him. Can't tel me Garth snow isn't on the hot seat and wouldn't love to add kovy say around December to keep Tavares happy. Would love to steal brazal away from them.

That's the type of player the devils should target for him. A guy that's played a handful of games already has the seasoning in the minors and can take the next step like in two years time.

I absolutely think the plan is to move Kovy at deadline if we're out of it. He'll have so much more value then, team's get panicky and overpay if they think they have a chance.

Yea we don't owe Kovy any immediate trades..... if he signs back, let him use us to catapult his value.

Quenneville and mcloed are suppose to have incredible hockey IQ and strong leadership qualites esp with mcloed. thats stuff this team has been lacking since 2003. i wouldn't look to move either of them just yet. thats the type of stuff you can't teach

I also wouldn't move Quennevile yet, he just lead Albany in points as the youngest skater on the team, although his +/- was horrendous (-19) but in 12 games with the big club he was a +1. Who knows..

He's also a natural center, same with Zacha, and McCleod. All these guys can become excellent wingers if necessary.

Even Henrique seems like he scored the most when he was running wing with Patty at Center a couple years back.

Offensively I think we have potential to be really good, as crazy as that sounds. I have faith Schneider will bounce back. The D though, needs to be our priority.

Maybe Santini can step it up, maybe if Merrill can stay healthy. But Greene is not getting any younger, Moore is a nice piece offensively but a liability defensively. Severson who knows, Lovejoy can be a healthy scratch every night. Sign a guy and trade for one and I think this is a solid, solid lineup.

I'll tell you the expansion draft will tell you how the summer will go. If the Devils don't take advantage of it then I expect to get a crap return for kovy and nothing much else done.

I would love to make a backroom deal with the ducks. Fowler for a 2nd then on July 1st kovy for a 2nd rounder. Boom!

Henrique is a nice piece to dangle for defense help also. So I expect some changes to this roster. I doubt shero pulled the trigger on hall if he didn't think this team wasn't ready to take a step. I think it was just bad breaks all season that did us in.

If Cory bounces back Patrick or nico put up 50pts or helol have a matthews type year why not. We are in good shape

Thinking about it now, may not mean anything but Shero does have some history with Bob Murray (Ducks GM). They made a handful of deals while Shero was with Penguins (Chris Kunitz being the most notable) and more recently the Palmieri deal. They must have some type of professional respect to make half a dozen trades with one another.

yeah but seeing how that palm deal shook out i'm not sure he wants to deal with us again and maybe get "burned" i wonder if the same is true for the oilers after the back lash of the hall trade even though that seems to have worked out for them well

Yes and no, Murray pretty much acknowledged that Palmieri was a dead asset to them. He said he knew they wouldn't be able to re-sign him. So in that sense he's shown he'd prefer to get something rather than nothing in regards to losing assets. At least that's what I'm convincing myself. Also, I would have to see what those picks turned into.
