Ziggy Ansah is the NFC defensive player of the week | ProFootballTalk

The award goes to a Detroit Lion for the second time in 6 weeks. This time it's Ziggy Ansah. He totaled 5 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and a forced fumble.

I'm not gonna look it up(someone else can do that), but I don't remember the last time we've had two DPOW in one season before, let alone 2 in the first 6 weeks. Much of it goes to the player, but Austin has to get some of the credit. It's obvious this defense is playing a bit different than in years past.

We hadn't had a single defensive player of the week since like 1997, so I don't know if we've ever had two in the same season...

How can this be? Hasn't Suh been on this team for years now? According to many here, he is the sole reason that the defense is good this year and we will suck without him.

Ziggy is finally back to full health. I would expect more of this as the year goes on.

I can't contradict this via fact, but Shaun Rogers or Dre Bly never won a single DPOW?

I hope your not basing this on the debate we were just posting in the other thread. I don't think we will suck without Suh. But I would be more favorable to us not being the #1 D without him.

Nope, I think Stephen Boyd was the last Lions player to get the honor...

It was not directed at you 22. People were saying that stuff long before you got here and almost all preseason. It gets tiresome so I wanted to point out that Suh has never won it.

Ziggy will be a beast in no time. Van Noy is also practicing again. Cant wait to get him out there, especially now that Whitehead had to move to the middle when we lost Tulloch. The front seven will be even better than it has been.

It was directed at me 22. Save your fingers. I've tried.

Any props to Mayhew for this home-run of a draft pick?

It was a top 5 pick. It was therefore a no brainer and doesn't count towards good drafting.

So top 5's are no brainers and therefore cant be busts?

Mayhew gets them when they're due. He got props for that whole draft. At least from me. Ziggy was a hit or miss pick. I think we are seeing which it was. Scary part is he's stilling learning the game.

Gandy.I agree. Ziggy really wasn't a sure thing at all. He had the physical talent but really hadnt played much. He didnt start until the 5th game of his senior season...he only had 4.5 sacks that year. He had only been playing football for 3 years. He was a big risk based on that IMO.

I'm assuming he was being facetious. It's been stated before by a certain poster that our top picks have always been no brainers, as if no thought goes into it.

The fifth pick was his grand slam. I praised him dearly for Martin. I praised him blindly assuming he would help flip the field. Now it is paying huge dividends. I liked the Freese pick also. Yes he failed miserably, but I like GM who goes after what he thinks is his man. Just did not work out. So the naysayers win that battle.

I scream fire Mayhew so the contract guy goes with him. The kicking the can on future money drives me crazy.
