I already watched all of season 4 part 1... its entertaining... but It still should have ended after season 3... the plot for season 4 is very forced... again, its good... but the plot could have happened to anyone, not just Joe...

I see. So there's a 2nd part. That drops in March I just discovered, so I only have 2 left. I'll be back to this after I watch part 2. This show hasn't disappointed me yet.

Ok I just finished Part 1 and you are right...apparently I'd fallen asleep during episode 3 so I watched it again, too. It is feeling very contrived and also over-the-top unrealistic in ways it had not been before.

His constant narration of what he's thinking is starting to get on my nerves too. Maybe that's something I just hadn't noticed as much before because it's always been a central part of the show. The ratings will determine whether there's season 5 but they should probably wrap it up with this.

so part 2 came out... and I binged it... again, I thought it was entertaining and decent show to watch... but I think they totally missed the ball this entire season... they could have made part one work... but I feel like the route they took was actually the wrong psychological profile and kind of ruined the first 3 seasons...

I am no psychologist, so I can be totally wrong on the ride I thought I was having the first three seasons... but my understanding of the character, made me very disappointed with part 2 of season four

I know you guys don’t agree with my Dexter comparisons, but this year they really leaned into the Dexter bit. I mean, they even introduced an actual Dark Passenger. And the narration was SCREAMING Dexter.

This season was entertaining enough. The whole “whodunit” trope was a bit meh, but it is what it is, and was entertaining for what it is. I never picked up on any Mult Personality from Joe in the first 3 seasons, so I discarded that as a possibility for who “You” was. Rhys was always a suspect, but I didn’t pickup on the imaginary aspect to him, so kudos to them, I guess (but part of why I didn’t pick up on it was because we already knew the character for 3 seasons and there was never this kind of psychosis even hinted at).

And one thing I don’t fully understand.

Was the real Rhys actually a part of the group, or was that entirely part of Joe’s fantasy? When Real Rhys was killed, the group seemed distraught as if he was one of them, but I thought we were supposed to believe that all of Joes interactions with him were fake. And why was Real Rhys at Simon’s funeral?

not sure of dexter, or just a typical serial killer... I guess the hero complex... but joe's "dark passenger basically" just said he is willing to kill for ANYTHING he wants... which was odd to me, because the first three seasons I felt like he was more of a stalker who was pushed to kill... but the final season changed that profile to someone who will murder to improve ones lives.. no matter who and why...

Just finished it. I really enjoyed it though I haven't completely processed Joe's unvarnished turn to the dark side and what was real and what wasn't. I look forward to season 5, which will apparently be its last. I will have to watch the last 2-3 episodes again before that though. This show is better than Dexter for my money and I liked Dexter.

Interesting take. My wife watches all manner of garbage on Netflix, and one day I saw her watching this, and inquired if it was bad. She said, no it was entertaining, but a poor man's Dexter. I watched an episode or two and it was okay, though I agreed with her opinion.

This Joe character is much more interesting and complex than Dexter and Badgley is also a better actor than Hall imo. If anything it's more like graduate school Dexter. I've always considered the Dexter comparison/dismissals to be initial hot takes because of the subject matter. Different strokes.

That could well be. The production value is considerably higher for Dexter too, which probably also skews comparison.

I should add also, that my wife took a recent business trip, and the hotel had Showtime, so she binged the Dexter reboot.

I really disagree... the only things dexter and Joe had in common were that they were both Serial killers, both had a hero complex...

If anything Dexter was the graduated form of Joe... as Joe was a stalker first serial killer second... and not until the last few episodes of the last season, Joe tried NOT to kill....

Dexter was a hunter, not a stalker.... Joe was a stalker not a hunter...

Dexter realized who/what he was. He lived in that world of knowledge. And he lived accordingly.

And the last season of You introduced the Dark Passenger (even switching its avatar multiple times). Very Dexter-ish.

There are similarities, but Dexter's motives and psychological makeup wrt why he did what he did was crystal clear. He knew exactly who he was and so did we.

Joe is a lot more complicated, though he became less so the last episode or 2. I look forward to seeing where they take Joe next season now that he's finally leaned into who and what he is.

ill agree that the 2nd part of this season was very dexter-ish... but until then i really dont see the comparison... and this was also my problem with the last season of you...

I would love to hear from a professional psychologist or criminal profiler... because i really thought they changed Joe's profile...

Then again... in Dexter- homecoming or whatever that was called, they changed Dexter's profile at the end too...

The Dexter reboot made Dexter much too “human”. He wasn’t killing, he was involved in the community, he seemed happy…

Dexter, in Miami, was an extreme odd ball. He wasn’t well adjusted. Though, to be fair, they did show, and explain, his growth from the start of the original series to the end of the original series. But the reboot made him almost completely “healed”, and that made no sense.

I feel like in both dexter and You. The writers were too afraid to continue how they originally written their characters because they think that the audience needs to see that serial killers are insane and evil.

For example dexter was originally a self aware hero complexed person who needed to kill. He used a code to direct his need to kill to enhance his hero complex.

Show ended with him being delusional codeless and a villain

Joe originally was a stalker who finds the one. And does everything he can to keep them. Including making the one’s life as perfect as possible. Even if that means protecting them by murdering someone. Then if that one finds out who joe is and does not accept him or was never who he reallly thought they were then that One needs to be displaced usually murdered.

He now is someone who will kill for any reason especially to protect HIMSELF and his way of life.

so... there is another season of this coming... I hope it is the last... but if it is the last, i am afraid that they will go full on insane Joe... i am afraid that the show will make a moral choice for Joe to lose... as murder is bad...
