Assuming that the Thunder had to choose between these two players and keep one but not both because of the salary issues and their theme to stay below the cap and all, I am wondering if Harden would have been the better choice between the two.

I think that the two guard tandem of Westbrook and Harden would be potent. Considering Durant is injured and his future health is uncertain, I would take Westbrook and Harden any day.

And besides that comparing them as players is simply ridiculous.

Right now the Thunder would have two players instead of one. I think Harden would have stayed if he had been offered a max contract, but clearly the Thunder had no intention of giving that to him.

If Durant wasn't hurt, this would never be a question. Even with him being hurt, it shouldn't be one.

Durant is simply a better player

He got hurt. It doesnt make Harden the better player.

The Thunder chose to pay Ibaka/Perkins over Harden which was stupid and likely wasted a title window.

But, choosing Durant/Harden is a no brainer.

100 times out of 100, Durant.

A better question would be should they have chosen Steph Curry over Harden. Curry has proven to be a team guy and definitely would have resigned with OKC since he did at Golden State for 10 mil a season.

You don't know anything about the situation if you believe that. Sure he would have to stay if they matched, and he would have made everyones life miserable. A more interesting question is what would have happened if the Thunder took Curry instead of Harden. Curry would have signed for less, just like he did in Golden State. Can you imaging Curry and Westbrook in the same backcourt?

Harden would have been nice to have right now over Kevin McGrady.

Thunder will be the favorite to win it all next season.

Nah, Kevin and his homeboy JayZ will nurse him along until some team pays him an obscene amount of money for a cripple. Franchise is done.

Durant and it's not even close

Before this year I believe Durant had only missed something like 10-14 games total in his entire career. 25 + ppg for 7 years in a row and 50 % shooting for 3 straight seasons.

Harden is a volume scorer who has yet to prove himself in the playoffs. Durant is quite the opposite. He's both efficient and prolific.

No way in hell anyone would've taken Harden over Durant back then.

NO...

That's like asking if the Hornets would have been better off with Kobe over Vlade.

It's cheating when you know the current outcome.

Plus, unless KD is permanently broken or flees in 2016, my answer would still be no even with the injury.

There are 3 players in the NBA you don't trade, unless it's for each other.

1. Lebron

2. Davis

3. Durant

Nope. Harden's a great player but Durant is that much better.

Choosing Durant over Harden isn't where OKC made the mistake. OKC made the mistake when they paid Ibaka all that money and not Harden.
