Worried About Middlebrooks?

Should us Red Sox fans be worrying about Will Middlebrooks offensively?

I mean we know he can hit, he just hasn't shown it this year and looks lost at the plate. Sure he had a game with 3 homers but still he isn't doing anything else.

It's very early in the season and he will continue to play since the Sox have no other real option but I'll admit I am getting a little nervous about him

Heck even Stephen Drew has a better BA then Will... (At least it seems like it)

Clearly too much was expected of him. He needs discipline at the plate...he thinks he can hit everything and tries to which makes him quite vulnerable. Of all people, Greg Colbrunn, will have to fix that.

Is this the real Middlebrooks though? If so he and the Red Sox are in trouble

No, I don't think it's the real Middlebrooks. I think he's just being over eager. Once he sorts that out I think he'll have a Dwight Evans type bat.

Brandon Snyder has recently started playing 3rd, a switch from 1st, in Pawtucket and is mashing. Should we read anything into this? Any chance he'll get a look, and maybe give Middlebrooks a 15 day DL breather? I'm sure his ribs could use the break from the swings-and-misses. Followed by maybe a "rehab stint" in the minors... not sure how he can't learn patience at the plate with his surrounding lineup to offer help and guidance.

@REDSEAT...I for one sure as heck wants to see Middlebrooks relax, settle down and

Guess this might be a reason why he has been slumping at the plate

He has been playing with a separated rib. That has to affect the way you swing and how comfortable you are at the dish.

Redseat......I had NO idea about a rib injury...but have had a few in my day and yup, they hurt like hell.......hope the kid is okay as we need him bigtime

Yeah I didn't either and this scares me but it gives me a little more reason to think this is just a "phase" for him and will turn things around

actually since the injury he is doing better 5/12 so maybe he plays thru it

Its got to be when he and Ross collided but he is hitting better 5/12 since .400
