Alright, we're an NHL team now!
I'll like your chances better if you can lock up Vokun
I wish.
Reading hfboards, there is now speculation that they might trade Weiss? I don't know. What a crazy day this has been.
Glad to see them improve. Can't even keep track of the movement. Did they sign Kopecky?
Happy for Flash! He's a likeable guy. Hope he lives up to the contract and is back in good health this year. Congrats ICW, must be a refreshing change this year.

So which player will be the next lottery winner? Who will the Panthers overpay next?
Why is everyone so obsessed with this?
Anyone see the Panthers opening night lineup last season?
I'm glad Tallon is finally bringing credibility to this organization. They might be in cap hell in a couple of years, but they can think about that in a couple of years. The world might end in a couple of years...maybe they'll make the playoffs for once; something this franchise hasn't done in a decade.
Also, why would any good player want to come to Florida without overpayment? They have to overpay not only to reach the cap floor, but for that very reason.
The Panthers aren't the only team overpaying players.
Kopecky for 3 million per is one of the worst contracts I've seen in a long time. Jovocop got over 4 million for 4 years. He'll be 39 when the contract ends & since he's already 35 it will count against the cap for the entire contract. I like Fleischmann, but 4 years 18 million is ridiculous for a guy who's dealing with Blood Clots. I realize he's taking medication that will hopefully solve the problem permanently, but that contract is outrageous. Tallon needs to reach the cap floor so he's got to spend money. Well he's certainly done just that.
Every team is overpaying players though.
The blood clot thing with Fleischmann doesn't seem serious; he just has to take medication. Vokoun had blood clots too, he's just fine now. If he's healthy, he'll produce.
The Jovo thing has a little to do with off-ice, as well.
1. Tallon probably hopes Gudbranson becomes Jovo in his great day, and figured he'd just sign him.
2. Jovo is the only guy in the NHL (at least non-superstar) that could get this fanbase excited; he was with the team the last time this franchise was relevant.
Some overpayments? Yeah. But they're all NHL quality players who will help the drafted players grow. Maybe this time around the prospects in the system won't grow accustomed to losing, for a change.
Last year, the roster was an AHL roster. Seriously, by the end of the year, I think some AHL teams could've beaten the Panthers.
Speaking of overpay, etc., I think the deal that was pretty great today was Reasoner to your Isles. He played well last year here. I thought he'd at least make 2 mill.
Tallon just gave Bergy 4 years at 2.75 per. Don't get me wrong I like Bergy, but that's ridiculous.
Reasoner will be the Isles 4th line center next season. After that he's going to have to fight for his spot with Casey Cizikas & Ryan "The Super Natural" Strome.
It is ridiculous, but I'm just saying we're not in trouble financially right now. I'm guessing they're all getting 4-year deals because that'll be the time when most of our young players get their money, and some of these guys will be let go.
On paper, at least we have a respectable team now. It's a shame they couldn't resign Vokoun; this current roster is a playoff team with Vokoun in net. Hopefully they can ride the hot hand with the likes of Theodore/Clemmensen.
As for Reasoner, trust me, you'll like him. I'd be pissed about it, but at least we replaced him with Goc.
