the Ray Rice situation. I really didn`t really pay a whole lot of attention to it other than the suspension and how ludicrous it was that he only got suspended for 2 gms for something more serious than a banned substance, etc. To be honest with you, when I first saw the "outside elev" video I was thinking that inside the elev she was prob very intoxicated and was prob flayling away on him and he just slapped her to get her to back off and then like alot of drunk women, did the drunk "Drama Queen" scenario and played it to the hilt. Not saying that is not serious. For a man to ever strike a woman is totally unacceptable and the Ravens and NFL should have punished him accordingly. After watching the inside elev video not only was I totally appalled by the viciousness of the hit on the poor girl, I was equally, if not more appalled by his cold, indifference lack of concern for her well being and the act he committed. That`s a man whos done this before, whether to her or somebody else. Yes, sometimes men snap and unfortunetly they strike out and do something they would never do normally. But in those cases you at least see or hear, " OMG! what did I do!" " Oh shit honey I~am so sorry please forgive me" or something when something like that happens. Rice showed complete indifference for her well being and his actions of just dragging her out, literally dropping her face down on the floor, kicking her feet etc shows this guy deserves not only lifetime ban from the NFL but 5-10 in prison at a minimum. If it does come out that the NFL Commisoner and the Ravens did see that video before their statement regarding the domestic violence laws in effect, then there is some very serious issues with them going to come to be. Just wondering your guys thoughts if ya care to discuss.

Ray Rice is a piece of shit and I'm glad he will be out of the NFL. I hope he does time for this also. Those are my thoughts on this story.

BTW, I didn't see the video. Didn't need to.

Well, I believe with the plea deal, the police case is closed. Doubt anything else happens there. As for the new suspension, don't be surprised if that's successfully appealed. CBA has a clause I believe against punishing a player twice for the same offense. NFL really screwed up this case, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Rice back with another team next season. (He may even catch on with another team this season.)

Before this most recent tape came out there were some things I was definitely questioning of what happened in the actual elevator. The fact the police let them go home together made me think this wasn't as severe as some were making it out to be. Now that I have seen the inside the elevator part of all this I have to say I am more appalled with the police letting them go home together than I am at the NFL. You are right Randymon his actions make me think this is not his first time. Heck his lack of restraint in his left hook should show that as well. He had no problem just full out decking her. To me that should have been clear to the police as well and there should have been no scenario that they went home together in a state of being drunk and angry with one another. They really both need a night in the drunk tank to sober up before being released.

Now to the NFL to me it all depends on what they were actually able to see. If they did not see the tape then it is a bit more understandable the actions that they took. From what I understand Rice had told them that she hit him first and he just reacted to being abused. Throw in she then supported him in court (which isn't uncommon for someone who has been abused) making it hard to completely lay down the hammer. Now if the NFL had seen this tape and only reacted the way they did then honestly this to me is a fireable offense for Roger Goodell. He should have known this tape would get out and to only come down like he did on Ray Rice is just a flat out insult to just about every woman out there. He keeps talking about how the NFL cares about the female demographic but actions like this show a completely different idea. So we shall see what all comes out though and maybe they didn't see this. I have a hard time believing that though.

Yeah cd, my thoughts are also if Goodells claims that the police wouldn`t provide video and there was a request and its true that the police control casino video, etc then I don`t feel there`s anymore culpability than the orignial lenient penalty vs Rice they screwed up on. Now, if it comes out that Goodell and company did see this video and tryed to sweep it under the rug, then Goodell has serious issues headed his way. Foremost though, and your right, the legal system failed the young woman here. One thing though that bugs me is, how did TMZ get video? Have to be police right? Something smells mui corrupto mundo here. Like always

From what I understand, the police obtained a copy of the video. That suggests the original remained in the casino's custody. Who knows how many employees would have access in that case. :noidea:

TMZ or whoever always seem to find a way. Somebody is willing to sell out for some big money to release these things. My guess is they got it from the casino as it is their property and because the case had been dropped it no longer was needed for evidence. Nice way for the casino to make maybe a million bucks extra money just from giving up a 3-minute clip of video.

I don't, for one second, believe the NFL hadn't seen this video up until yesterday.

Nope. No way.

I think they had to have seen it and are now just trying to cover up the trail that shows that they did. Honestly I have been one that never thought Goodell was a great Commissioner but thought he could be worse. His actions over the last couple of years though have been just down right ridiculous. Only reason he still has a job is because the NFL is making more money than ever but I honestly think he has very little to do with that right now. Time for him to step down.

One of the reasons his actions look ridiculous is because of the inconsistent manner he levies suspensions. This is especially true of the personal conduct policy, and as I predicted, Goodell managed to make that even worse. He doesn't discipline based on a player's actions and a prescribed policy, he disciplines based on media response, and that's no way to run a league. He's not telling the players not to do stupid crap, he's essentially telling them not to get CAUGHT doing stupid crap.

This video doesn't change what Rice did. All it did was change the public perception of the event even more. So instead of following his own policies and those of the CBA, he comes up with an arbitrary "indefinite suspension" punishment to please the media. :L

I couldn't agree more WalkerBoh. People seem to forget that Greg Hardy was actually convicted of Domestic Abuse yet I hardly hear his name even mentioned when it comes to his despicable act that he did. If he had been videotaped doing it honestly I think his actions would have even a worse outcry than that of Rice's.

Heck players have been doing this crap for years and it wasn't until this tape came out that anybody even seemed to care all that much. Our past Brandon Marshall was arrested for Domestic Violence and hardly anybody batted an eye at that.

So honestly it does seem hypocritical to me now for the media to focused so much on this one case when they could care less about all the past ones. Heck Rice's 2-game suspension is more than a lot of those guys got in the past so really he had been punished more harshly for his crime than most.

I'm glad this has opened the eyes of the NFL that people do care about this stuff and I am glad we have the new rules in place but this just seems like a reaction to a situation that is about 20 years too late. Only when the NFL gets egg on its face do they seem to care about these issues. I just wish they would show a bit more that they cared about more than just money.

Goodell seems to have lost control of this situation from the very beginning. The more he and the NFL talk right now I am reminded of the adults in a Charlie Brown cartoon.

You fumbled, Mr. Goodell.....big time.

Ray Rice is a douche, and because Goodell handled this in a Bud Selig drunken manner, that part is being overshadowed.

Funny that you mention Bud Selig, Cali. That's exactly who I was thinking of to compare Roger Goodell to. I think Goodell is a worse commissioner though. (Never thought in a million years I would say that. Wow.) He is doing an absolutely terrible job of running this league. He makes misstep after misstep, and as already mentioned, he needs to step down. The guy could fuck up a bowl of cereal.

I don't agree with a man hitting a woman, but at the time she was only his fiance. She turned around and married him anyways. So while I feel bad for women stuck in a relationship with a husband who is abusing them and no where to turn for help, she was not even married to him yet, had full public awareness of her situation, could have turned and walked away from him with full public support. She instead married him. I do feel sorry she is having to go through this media circus, that is totally not fair to her, but I do not feel sorry for her in general regarding the situation. She had a free pass out of the relationship and would have been full public support, but she obviously didn't think it was that bad to dive even deeper.

You know what I mean?

I agree about Rice though and the original poster. His lack of concern for her was the most frightening aspect of this whole thing. I mean hell, act shocked at your actions, fall to the ground, take her head into your hands and put her head on your lap, stroke her hair, apologize profusely, maybe even sob a little. He was treating her like he was a serial killer and was dragging her dead body out of his basement. He had no remorse at all until he got caught by the guy outside the elevator. Rice has zero sympathy from me, and while I feel bad for Janay and her getting hit, her having to go through this media circus, I don't feel sorry for her situation in general, because she still chose to marry him following this act.
