I was listening to Marty Lurie over the weekend on the radio and he was talking about why Giants fans were not more interested in talking about Belt's injury and the impact it will have on the Giants.
Belt who started fast out of the gate has slowed down a little but his bat and his glove have been a big part of this 2014 season. His position will have to filled by players like Posey , and Morse. With them playing first that opens up a chance for guys like Blanco, Colvin, and at catcher Sanchez. These are the days that test a team. Back in 2012 the Giants lost 1st half MVP of the team Melky Cabrera to a PED violation but pulled together and overcame to be World Champions. Last year Angel Pagan went down to injury and the Giants could not overcome it. No one could fill his role as lead off hitter and the offense sputtered.
This year it's Belt who will be out with a broken thumb for at least 6 weeks. You don't want players to press but they all need to step up their game and pick up their injured teammate. It was good to see Sandoval have 3 hits and a couple of RBI's yesterday as the Giants could really use his bat. These are the times when teams find out what they are made of. This 2014 team has the same type of positive energy going for it as they did in 2012. The offense is also stronger than last year when Pagan went down. Injuries are part of the game which is unfortunate but sometimes it brings out the best in other players who find a way to make their mark and get the job done. This team has what it takes to stand tall and get it done until Belt heals up and comes back. This is a tough minded team which grinds for everything and never gives up.
