I know they had talked about going after Cutler and even though that's toast, the GM who brought him in is gone and a release would cut all payments to Revis going forward. I also read that releasing him would mean they only give the Jets a 4th round draft pick as opposed to 3rd round.

And does he want to play zone for Lovie anyway?

First of all lovie is not dumb enough to only play a guy like that in zone.. He's a smart defensive guy and will use him appropriately. Secondly they just gave up a high first round pick for him, no way he gets cut this offseason. It is an absurd notion and I guarantee it won't happen..

The GM who gave up the first rounder is also gone.

I would be willing to bet they would. In Lovie's system you don't need to waste 20 million of cap a year on a shut down corner back.

Plus the way the contract is structured,,, ZERO cap hit if htey cut him

It won't happen, I'd be happy to bet on it too..

Sunk costs are irrelevant. If you have the choice of paying Revis 16 mil a year or not, I lean a lot toward not. But they do already have a good bit of cap space, and the deal has legit nothing guaranteed. They have the same choice next year, etc. it depends what you can get there in the first place to use that cap money on.

I would doubt this happens. I really don't see the cover 2 being as successful as it once was in the NFL. I can see Lovie mixing in the cover 2 bur not using it as the base defense.

Has a def coordinator been name yet? That will be the clue on what defense they will be playing.

They will some man, but the base defense will be the T-2. And even when they do run man, it will be press-man like he ran in Chicago. Lovie is too smart to alter everything he does well to suit the skill set of one player, especially when the rest of the team is built to his strengths.

Also, Revis' contract is basically year to year with no bonuses or dead money if he's cut. I wouldn't be shocked if he's gone. Though because the contract is so team friendly, they would get picks from another team for him before needing to cut him.

The real question is does Revis have any trade value left with that 16 million dollar a season price tag.
