He has been a fan favorite since he got here but this will not help. It will be interesting to hear the reception he get's at their next home game.

Ott on fans' booing: 'Completely ridiculous'

Ott, remember, made unsolicited comments to reporters Sunday night about the boos and mock cheers from First Niagara Center fans during the shootout win over New Jersey. Asked about them again today by WGR host Howard Simon, Ott didn't hold back.

"I think it's completely ridiculous, to be honest with you," Ott said. "We go into other buildings, we've won a lot of games and teams should have the same amount of frustration, sold-out buildings and it's funny becaue they're continuing to cheer on their team. They stand behind their team. They respect the work ethic and everything else.

"It's disheartening when we did get hemmed in our zone and they're basically mocking us when you get up past the blueline and you finally get it in their zone after I guess you could say that minute and a half shift when they didn't have a scoring opportunity. I guess you can say it was more the mocking of my teammates and everything else that probably pissed a lot of guys off, including myself."

"You're a fan of the Buffalo Sabres and hopefully you come to cheer us on and motivate us to be good. We've got a lot of young players on this team and they definitely don't deserve to be booed. They deserve to have that excitement and energy. It's definitely not their fault for the last six years of frustration that's gone on."

More if you're interested, to me it's not the smartest thing to say.

I guess fans in Dallas don't boo when you are running around in your own zone for two minutes TWICE at even strength and can't get the puck out over the blue line?

i have zero problem with booing your own team. you can understand at points where they are sucking and you dont boo Im all for that as well.. but when it becomes consistent and lazy and they just dont want to get better (im looking at you colorado) then its fair game.

Im not sure of the sabres situation but being 4 pts out of a playoffs spot (its 4 right?) I dont think a boo is needed at this time....

All I ask for from the teams I support is effort - If it looks like to me you're displaying a honest work effort, then there shouldn't be any booing regardless of the outcome. If I determine the team is mailing it in, then you'd better believe booing is justified.

It depends on the situation. I hate when fans boo in a well played game because of the powerplay or something like that. Think the players don't realize the powerplay sucked? Pretty sure they're fully aware of that...

Fans are paying far more than they should and your're a millionaire complaining the fans aren't respecting you?

I don't boo players, but that's just me, I say if you pay for a ticket, you're entitled to boo as much as you please.

As for booing coaches, I did that one time and the coach got fired two months later and that team went on to win the Cup - so now I only boo when I find it really necessary

I'm fine with booing...What these player don't realize is we support them, and if we don't show they don't exist. Most people who watch the sport and are true fans don't make Millions. So seeing a lazy team play that you support is like burning your hard earned cash.

But hey I'm fine with 6 years without a playoff win, I wont boo.

That's how I feel. I never boo the team but if you're paying to see a game it's OK with me.

True and it's not like the place is half empty they draw big crowds and should be thankful that there's enough of them in the place to hear them boo.

Just shut up and play Steve....beside, I bet Miller was one of the people booing when he kept bailing your asses out.

Miller said pretty much the same thing as Ott, and to a degree, I agree with them.

This team has gone through a lot of changes lately, and most of the roster are young guys called up from Rochester, who are trying to find their groove in the NHL.

You can't say they aren't trying, considering they have a 3 game win streak going, and are 4 points out of a PO spot. Besides, even though they were hemmed into their own end for a long period of time, they kept the puck mostly to the outside, and didn't really allow that many shots.

On the other hand, people pay hard earned money to be entertained, so it's not uncommon to hear people boo when the product on the ice is looking lackluster.

On the radio last night, Jerry Sullivan said what would Miller say if he spent 1 million dollars on a night of entertainment, only to have it end in a disaster, or be boring? You think he wouldn't be booing or pissed off a bit?

More the reason for them to boo. They should be playing desperate hockey not going through the motions unless they're trying to tank it and if that's the case they blew it by winning.

I should say that I love Ott. I like what he brings to the team and wish all of the players played with the intensity that him and Kaleta play with.
