This makes no sense to me.

Thirteen years in league, made the playoffs six times, poor attendance: No way can this team move.

Ten years in the league, made the playoffs once, no playoff wins, poor attendance(but 100K more this year than Phoenix): Not working, move the team.

What's the difference here? Why is the league hellbent on saving one team and so quick to consider moving the other? They have followed very similar arcs, with Ponicks boasting a slightly better team and slightly worse attendance.

True North officials are doing some major home renovations this week with the Manitoba Moose out of town.

They have been working on expanding the MTS Centre press box for several months now, but this week they’ve brought a crane into the lower bowl do a little heavy lifting.

Scott Brown, True North’s director of corporate communications and hockey operations, said construction is going well and the goal is to have it completed this summer.
The current press box is being expanded at both ends to get it up to code when it comes to exits and washrooms. A whole second level is being added beneath the current press box as well. That is where most of the print media will be stationed.

When all is said and done, press box capacity will increase from approximately 60 to 150.

“We’re doing it because one of the issues we’ve had since the beginning was the fact that the press box is substandard, no matter what level of professional hockey,” Brown said.

“Approximately 30% of the views upstairs in the press box are obstructed views.”

As for the hope and the belief of many Winnipeggers that the NHL is coming back to Winnipeg and had something to do with the renos, Brown said it did and it didn’t.

“It has no connection directly to whether or not we’re going to the next level, but it is part of the building that would need to be improved if we ever did go to the next level,” Brown said.

“The timing was purely coincidental. The fact it got moved up may or may not have anything to do with what was going on earlier in (2010), but it’s a project that needed to be done.”

Maybe they will merge the two teams like they did with the Barons and the North Stars in 1978. Then the could sell an expansion to Las Vegas and move Detroit to the eastern conf. and move the Coyotes to Winnipeg.
