Why has Mitch Kupchak not stepped down yet as GM?

Sorry, but the Lakers way of doing things seems to work better.

Don't believe Logic gets it but bears repeating what the blueprint is to winning titles

You act like this contract is the equivalent of the Angels signing Pujols to a 10 year deal at age 35.

And a big contract for Hamilton...:L  :frusty:

Anyone else remember when Celtics fans used to know basketball? What the hell has happened?

The deal for Dwight was one that every GM in the NBA would have made. They took a shot and it didn't work. It happens. Lakers fans have moved on. Why haven't you?

The Nash deal was a good one at the time for what the Lakers were trying to do. No one could have predicted that he would have a freak injury that would cause this much trouble for this long.

The Lakers problem isn't and hasn't been D'Antoni and the Lakers are better off in the long run without Dwight. The Lakers will still be stacked with cash and will still have enough cap space to land a max deal free agent in either this coming FA class or 2015. Then, when Kobe's contract expires after 2015, they will have the capo space to grab another max player in 2016.

Gotta love C's fans. They know they're looking another 2 decades of irrelevance, so all they if is trying to come up with "doomsday scenario's" for the Lakers. It's sad and pathetic, but it's all they have.

I GREATLY disagree with you on this one.

It WOULD have been a great deal had it happened 5 years ago. You VASTLY overpaid for a very old PG......it was never a good deal, not even in your dreams. You don't give up picks and cash for a 39 year old PG, period. It was a dumb move, plain and simple, even if Nash worked out for you.

I said based on what the Lakers were trying to do last year. The idea was to try and win a title last year with a lineup of Nash, Dwight, Pau, Kobe and MWP. When the deals took place, many "experts" predicted the Lakers to win the title and if memory serves, Vegas had them only slightly behind the Heat.

If Nash had stayed healthy and played like he did as recently as 2011, absolutely no one would be talking about what a "bad deal" this was. However, it didn't work. That happens. However, to say it was a bad deal at the time shows that you really have no clue as to what the Lakers were trying to do and have completely dismissed what the predictions were at the time.

LA's past success and 11 titles was based on a owner who is now gone.

He built through the draft and sprinkled in vets. he did not give away picks for nothing. he never begged a player to stay with banners flying (only to later trash him in the press)

Those ingredients dont exist today in LA, but yes, the history of those years does

much more that can be said about your 1 title in 27 years that's for sure

it was a "win-at-all-costs" gamble and it didn't work. As a fan, I appreciate they tried to do something vs. staying pat. So they lost some drafts which, as you know quite well being a Celtics fan, don't always amount to building a franchise. Post-1990, we won our 5 titles through mostly trades and FA's(lone exception was Fisher). In the late '70s it was mostly through draft and already having Kareem on board.

when are the Celtics going to start spending $$ and what trade value is currently on the roster besides a damaged Rondo? Let's see how Ainge gets the ship righted and/or if he lasts as your GM....

BAM, the lakers drafted Kobe. They traded Divac the day before of the draft. They would not even tell the Hornets who they were going to draft until 5 minutes prior.

That draft pick may have been Doc's greatest draft pick, better than Worthy and Magic who anchored the other great dynasty phase.

(just an FYI on your team history)

They had to trade Vlade to get Kobe. It wasn't their own pick--yup I do know my teams' history.

Aside Pierce, name the key players Celtics drafted in last 27 years? Keep in mind, with your strategy of building a contender thru draft, as you've posted ad naseum.

"It wasn't their own pick"- No your wrong, it was their pick. They traded a valuable asset (something you dont have today) for "the rights" to pick. No one knew who they were picking except LA. They aquired a draft pick in order to obtain Kobe. Sorry, you can spin that the draft means nothing to building a team, but your wrong. LA built both the Magic and the Kobe dynasties starting with smart drafts.

Boston Draft picks on note since the Bird Era:

Len Bias
Reggie Lewis
Brian Shaw
Rick Fox
Jon Barry (ok, a reach I know)
Eric Williams
Antoine Walker
Chauncey Billups
Joe Johnson
Tony Allen
Paul Pierce
Al Jefferson
kendrick Perkins
Delonte West
Randy Foye
Jeff Green
Rajon Rondo
Glen Davis
Avery Bradley
Sullinger
Kelly O

Of course the first two's sudden deaths decimated the assets, but the next phase that truly did us in was trading away all thos players for hacks. Then, we traded away many number ones for more hacks. Danny came in in 2003/2004 and started rebuilding assets with Al J and Kendrick, and guys like Grimes and Delonte. Those assets and a few picks brought us Tony Allen and KG. But it took Danny a good three years to get the assets in place. The recent deal with Brooklyn, which now looks even better than a few months ago, is setting Danny up for an even better base to make the deals ahead.

As Danny points out, there is no way a GM can have a master plan early in the rebuild. Its about accumulating assets.

And let me add, the person who gave away draft picks, the young players above they were lucky to draft (leading subsequently to then purchasing overpriced Vets to try to stay competitive??????????).....................Rick Pitino.

He panicked. The press is hard here and he could not handle it when they crucified him for stupid deals. Boston is not the place for stupid coaches or selfish players.
