This is the first game of the NFL regular season we are talking about. We'll all watch no matter what the matchup is.

Yes, but the NFL wants everybody to watch all 4 quarters. Pair them up against an average team out of conference, people outside of the market will tune out if its a blowout by halftime. SF, Pitt and Det would be able to keep the viewers for the entire game.

LOL well in that case I guess we should be taken off the slate. 13-1 in prime time in the PC era, and most of those are blowouts. Probably why we only got 1 home prime time game this year, and we of course won that one by 20.

The League screwed up by basically hinting that was the intention, so now I think they don't have a choice but to give Seattle a couple of home prime time games outside the Thursday nighter.

NFl is putting division games late in the year, so I don't see the 49ers being the team the Seahawks face to start the season.

It's all about what the market dictates during the offseason. The NFL capitalized on the rivalry between the two teams and if the league feels the rivalry might take a step back because of Harb's departure, then it could set up for a week 1 match up with months of promos to keep the rivalry intact. On the other hand, your probably right.
