Tier 1 disappointments: Nationals, Red Sox, Tigers. These guys were the favorites. Nationals were almost unanimous playoff contenders.

Tier 2 disappointments: Indians, Marlins, Mariners. These sleeper teams went into a coma

Add the white sox to tier 2

Hi Atlanta

If this is based on the last ~50 games, sure. But coming into the season, I'd say the general consensus was they'd be a pretty crappy team. Terrible lineup and mediocre pitching.

The Giants didn't really have huge expectations by most accounts. Nationals did.
The defending WS chmps? Are you saying the Giants got lucky? The Giants play in by far the weakest division in baseball and should have run away with this division but I give the edge to the Nationals. They have a great lineup and great pitching and have cetainly under-achieved. But the cheapskatedness of the front office left this team unprepared as a pitching staff. The front office gets an "F".

Giants fans are mourning right now, but I do not think many would consider this year a disappointment (and even fewer would consider OP a Giants fan). We are still in contention (faintly, granted) into September in a year that we had a lot of dead contracts expiring. I am AOK with that.

On top of that, we "found" Duffy, Heston and Tomlinson and "established" Panik and Crawford.

Overall, a productive season, thank you very much.

LOL at first bolded. 100% agreement on the second bolded. Although we did discover that Heston cannot even get through the month of August without taking time off. Aoki was much better than I thought he would be as well.

Just a few things

Not as lucky as the 2014 Royals were just to get to the WS? But yes, there always is some luck involved to win or even get to a World Series. I am a pretty adamant believer in that idea when it comes to baseball. It's why I personally cringe at some of these all-in plans teams come up with.

UM, the Dodgers are not pushovers in recent years, no matter how hilariously inefficient they are per dollar spent. Winning the division is the goal first. Also, the NL East says hi in terms of easy divisions.

Really? Cheapskate? Tell that to the 20 some odd teams with a lower payroll than the Giants. Are the Royals cheapskates for going with Kendrys Morales instead of Nelson Cruz? Frankly, I am still kind of pissed they gave Rios 11M knowing what Aoki got, I figured he'd get more than he actually did from the Giants. So, whatever I guess. Cheapskate just seems like an excuse to go after a FO for some bizarre reason. It's not as if they had significant success prior to 2014... oh wait...

I think the Royals built themselves a nice little team. Very efficient with an excellent bullpen. Problem for them is they won't re-sign any of these young stars once they are eligible for money. We agree though that the Giants had some unbelievable luck in their 3 year run.

It's probably as damaging an offseason, that yielded absolutely nothing in the big picture, as any in a long time. I agree it's not quite the most disappointing, but the worst offseason/season? Oh god, yes.
I said it the 1st of the year the padres were just a newer version of the 2013 blue jays Picked up some well known names so everyone got excited:suds:

Mariners were supposed to make some noise this year. Instead it was just fart noises with multiple 8+ game lose streaks, Cano slumping all over the place, and dumb loss after dumb loss. At least the fraud of a GM was finally kicked to the curb, but overall, 2015 was a disaster for the mariners.

To this point, disappointments have to be the Pads & Nats in the NL....and the M's & O's in the AL.

Surprises are the 'Stros & Twins from the AL...and the Cubs & Mets from the NL

Perhaps under Colleti, the new front office will be a different story.
