Some have been injured. Some just ineffective. But by and large, just bad.:gaah:

Pick your choice for pitching flop of the year so far. And indicate why that pitcher is your pick.

Surprisingly no shortage of candidates!

Note that the reigning Cy Young Award holders are prominently included here. In fact, one is my choice. My pick goes to R.A. Dickey. I'll take him over Price because (as far as I know) he has not been injured. I choose Dickey because I feel that he has "out-sucked" the other choices. Matt Cain gets dishonorable mention.

Cole Hamels
R.A. Dickey
Roy Halladay
David Price
Jered Weaver
Matt Cain

Like I said...it's Dickey in a close call...

I'd say Price...

Most people thought that the knuckleballer would not hack it in the AL (or, maybe it was just me.) I predicted 10-12 wins and an ERA around 4.50. He's not that far off, so not that much of a disappointment...

Cain is not having a horrid year when you look at his peripherals. He still as approx 3 K/BB and his WHIP is under 1.2. The real concern is his 1.2 HR/9. He has always been a FO pitcher, but his FB had enough movement on it that he was missing bats on pitches that "looked" fat. Well, if he has lost that little bit if late movement, than a lot of his shallow FOs now become round-trippers.

He will need to alter his strategy a little bit, and that may take some time, but he is still a horse and the anchor of the staff.

Not that he does not warrant at least a mention in this discussion, though.

I'd remove Jered Weaver from this list. :2cents:

If they have been injured, I'd take em off the list.

I say Dickey. Was 100% against him coming to the Rangers and glad we dodged that over-rated bullet.

I called Dickey (and the entire Blue Jays team) right from the get go in the offseason. Dickey is 38 and had one dominant season ever. I couldn't believe how stupid the Jays were to give him all that money.

:agree:

I think that is an objective viewpoint. Jered Weaver is not having a good season but certainly suffered a major injury. One could legitimately say he is not a flop, just a disappointment due to injury.

Funny too that some people in Detroit would have wanted Justin Verlander on the list a week ago. They expect so much out of the guy. Just because he proved human with three shaky starts people were close to panic.

I went with Price. At least Dickey (who is 2nd in my opinion) has managed 1-2 very good starts and a few decent ones. Price (who was also better than Dickey last year in my opinion) hasn't done anything this year and is still hurt. As of now my vote is Price but by the end of the year I'd think Price will come back and be good, Dickey, well, I hope for my fantasy team's sake he is good, but i doubt he will be. if we re-vote at the end of the season I predict my vote would be for Dickey.

He only got like 14 starts during the time he was working on the knuckle ball. Since he's been starting after getting comfortable with it he had 3 consecutive good seasons

I went with Dickey. It was pretty obvious this type of season was coming.

What made it obvious?

Jumping to AL. Just got the payday and was thought to be some sort of savior to help make a team not close to contending a major vegas favorite. The fact he finally had a good year at 38 whether it was learning the knuckleball or not. Just never though his year would be great.

I will be honest and say I expected more of a lower 4 era though.

I had my doubts too. but I can't say it was obvious. He had 3 really good seasons no matter how you look at it. think there were so many people saying he wouldn't have a good season after 2010 are now trying to say I told you so. I read it a lot over the last 2 seasons and calling him a fluke. And now since last year his numbers were so good they are disregarding his 2 seasons prior to that by saying he has only had one good year. And trust me, I know how bad he was I watching the games when he played for the Rangers. But he did become a knuckle ball pitcher and after becoming that guy, he was good the 3 seasons he did it after the few starts he got in Seattle.

I had Hamels. Mostly because he reportedly shunned the Dodgers, but also because he's supposed to be in his prime, and he's stunk up (what's left of) the Phillies rotation this year.

So, if this season was expected, how is it a flop?

I knew he would "flop" - that is why I didn't vote for him here. I really did not expect Price to flop this bad...

I picked Cain pretty high for my fantasy team and he's been a dud. So my vote is probably biased.
