A lot of good options here but for me I think I’d grab S Obi Melifonwu if he’s available. He’s a big safety with a ton of range, and the ability to match-up man to man vs big physical TEs and WRs. That is a weapon to have on your defense and something the Redskins have lacked since the days of Sean Taylor.

this is from steve shoup , draft nic for the redskins at fanspeak who attended the sr bowl

Is he a 2nd or 3rd rounder?

anywhere from round 1 to round 2 with the combine and individual workouts surely to change it up or down

my mock has him in round 1 at this time subject to change

I meant the whole NFL first round mock but ok. Nice picks in rounds 1-4 but Lamp lasting to the 4th is a reach. He is arguably the best OG in the draft.

He could do Byron Jones numbers in the combine and "We" still shouldn't take him in the first. Sorry skinsdad, I haven't seen ANY impressive film on him, nor have I heard about any strength of schedule at UCONN.
Byron, IMO was a reach and is still getting destroyed in open space. Obi, as you've described him in other threads sounds better suited for SS duties, not single high or freelancing.

yes he is , you need to look at some tape

After reading numerous articles and all of them saying pretty much the same thing. I've had a change of heart concerning Melifonwu. If anything, he might not last till the Skins pick. He has the skills and attributes to be a free safety though.

Breed!?! NOT you too...lol, now I'm going to have to do some more diggin' I'm not impressed by two interceptions against Temple, down 21. I will say he looked good on an island, but i'd have to question the play calling.

True. Though, while I don't know college players anywhere near as well as you or others on the board. If Melifonwu is still available when the Skins pick rolls around. Its hard to imagaine any player being as impressive as him. Than again expectations are going to be really high for him. So chances are decent he might disappoint with some of his combine scores as well. One NFL person said he expects the kid to run in the low 4.4s and vertical leap close to 4 feet. Those are some lofty expectations.

And on the Skins safety issues at present. I'm still not sure putting Cravens exclusively at SS is a good idea, especially with a rookie. They (the Skins) do need to find a way to get Cravens on the field though. He's one of those "he's a football player" types. He makes plays and always seems to be around the ball in the action.

i had him at 17 in my mock , but these things change after the combine , workouts for clubs , pro days , and investigations . this is a good safety class so we should get a good one within the first 3 rounds

no disrespect but Peppers had been mocked by several credible sites as #1 safety that would come off the board.
Somehow with Hooker declaring and Obi practicing, does this really mean THEY are going to leapfrog Peppers and Adams? Hooker, doesn't have much experience starting and folks are raving about Obi's measurements and athleticism? Adams has been compared to Tyrann Mathieu and Peppers is described as being a better athlete than Jalen Ramsey. Exactly why do I want to pass on a guy that excelled on doing a million things well? I'm going to ask him to defend passes, and tackle. Also when he makes picks, pretend its a punt return, lol
