Brandon beat the Hitmen 6-2 last night in Calgary to kick-off the WHL playoffs.

Vancouver faces Spokane in round 1 while the Medicine Hat Tigers take on Saskatoon.

Tigers got goals from five different players in a 5-2 win over the Blades. Bunz had a solid game between the pipes and was awarded first star.

I don't know, I think the Q still has that designation...

It was a weird year for the WHL. A lot more scoring than I'm used to seeing. It's sure as hell not the same league as it was even 5 years ago.

The Chiefs goaltenders have been awful so far in the playoffs. Losses of 7-5 and 7-3. The Chiefs goalie stats are:

Mac Engel - Mins 95 GA 12 GAA 7.56 SV% .789
Eric Williams - Mins 24 GA 2 GAA 5.10 SV% .833

Horrible stuff there. Glad to see the Tigers held serve at home though. I'm not sold on Edmonton and I think that Tri-City and Portland are the teams to beat. Can you imagine if the Winterhawks got Niederreiter and Johansen back this year? Wow...

Niederreiter belonged in Portland all season. Wang needed his cap hit to reach the floor. It's total bullshit. Nino has been playing 8 to 10 minutes per game on the 4th line for the most part. This is not the way to develop a young player.

He's going to look awesome on a line with Selanne next season.

A guy you should be excited about seeing next year is Charlie Coyle. Slightly off topic since this is the Q and not the Dub, but after 2 playoffs games Coyle has 6 goals and 5 assists. He had a hat trick in each game. He's a beast among boys out there. Oh and his linemate (fellow Wild prospect that can also be linked to the Burns trade) Zack Phillips has 2 goals and 6 assists. After 2 games they are numbers 1 and 2 in scoring.

P.S. Sorry fellow Sharks fans. :L

The first round is usually a bit of a shit show and a lot of series are sweeps with most games being blowouts. With the contraction of Lewiston and expansion to Sherbrooke still pending, there were only 17 teams in the league this season so only 1 team misses the playoffs. So you have 1 vs 16 and 2 vs 15 match-ups and they can get pretty ugly. So far every series is 2-0 with only 1 of those being the lower seed leading. My Sea Dogs are the top seed and they are playing the 16th seed Cape Breton. After last night I actually couldn't help but feel sorry for the Cape Breton players.
