I have zero faith in B Smith being an answer in KC. I've been scouring everywhere for news of chiefs camp, haven't heard a peep about him really.
And a #3 in a 16 team league is at best# 33

I guess i prefer the #2.

But, like said, I don't think he'll ever be the guy in KC, so my POV didn't give him much value in the deal

you say playoff team and non playoff team so i take it that we are talking about similar draft spots... around 27-39 for both?? i feel like when we get that deep into the draft the actual picks are not very different... they become just numbers for whether you need a player or not...

so it really is all about whether you like Smith or not... no math needed here... if you like smith then Smith's side wins, if you dont, then the other side wins...

Converted WR with 4.3 wheels, I think Reid will find a way to get him a chance, up to him to make something of it.

What I've seen so far online:
Camp news has been good, especially on the receiving side.

Pecking order has clearly been Pacheco, Hunt, Mitchell, then Smith (as expected since he's only rookie), with Mitchell and Smith both making plays that turned some heads in recent practices

For whatever that's worth

Pretty much top 6 team and bottom 6 team, but the bad team isn't bottom 3.

Potential is solid for good team to be top 3, but as you know with 16tm leagues, hard to build depth so any contender can fall off fast if the injury bug hits

not sure which side you are on... but i would try to get more... not saying i would expect to get more... but the picks are for 2026.... i have the time to see if Smith is anything... even if he is not, the upgrade to that 2nd rounder is not exactly going to be difficult to get if you need it later on...

no reason to even make this trade now...

that's all true and well and good and all..but how many times have we all figured Andy Reid will find a way to get this crazy athlete the ball- only to watch the player fade into oblivion?
Maybe he's the guy to change that pattern, maybe not. But until proven otherwise, he's potentially/probably another CEH, another Hardman, another Sky Moore, another Justyn Ross, another Carson Steele, or even in some circles another Luis-Reese Zammit-
heck throw Sammy Watkins and LeVeon Bell, Josh Gordon, Kardius Toney, DHop in there too, Reid/Mahoomes didn't salvage their careers either.

It's a fairly long list of guys that "Reid will surely find ways to get this guy the ball and he'll be great" that hasn't panned out.

I don't know enough about this kid to say with any conviction, one way or the other. But, I can say, with conviction, that I'm done giving Andy Reid the benefit of the doubt that he can take mediocrity and elevate it to good or great.

Personally I would lean towards the 2nd. I say that because over the past few years, there HAVE been some nice rooks available in the mid-2nd rd - whereas not so much the case in the 3rd. Bucky Irving is a fine example. ....
Anyway, as Treff points out, it all depends on whether you think Smith is the future in KC which I'm not sure is the case either.

also, this is nothing here or there... but in MBBRL dynasty 2, Smith was a second round pick.... and 48(21st RB) on fantasypros...

But he is also a receiving back with speed... KC doesnt really have a veteran that does that...

Just so you are aware, 16tm league, so we're talking about moving back from pick 27-30 to 37-40 to add Smith.

Another interesting point that I didn't want to bring up initially, but in the 3 dynasty leagues I'm in with folks on the Hoop, Smith was taken at pick 16, pick 19, and pick 44, all by different owners.

Some pretty heavy draft capital used in 2 of those leagues

Outside of CEH, those are some wild comps for a rookie RB drafted by current staff

Say he takes a Mckinnon type of role, is that enough? The picks don’t matter too much in this deal, it’s the player. If you have the roster space and think his role can help your team..take A. If not just grab an extra 2nd and maybe it turns into an early-mid 2nd

CONS:
Reid's offense spreads the ball around too much. Even Kelce isnt getting the lion's share like he used to. Might be Reid's M.O. to keep defenses guessing - which does seem to be effective.

But KC is near the bottom as far as RB touches as well as TD scoring by RB.

PROS:
This is the RB room....
Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, Elijah Mitchell, Brashard Smith, Elijah Young, Keaontay Ingram (IR)

The poor 2024 RB distribution i mentioned may indicate Reid is looking for "the guy." If Smith just shows some burst and doesnt fumble, i think he can leapfrog Hunt and Mitchell. Was a fan of Pacheco but i dont think he's the answer.

If i'm not clear, i'd side with the Brashard & 3rd side, especiallly in a 16-team league.

well I'm not saying he is or isn't any of those people..just saying that to at least some extent, a shit ton of fantasy players bought into Andy Reid injecting value into these players- whether they were 'has beens', 'never will be's' or "used to be good and are trying to hang on one more year or so" - and we were wrong, every single time.

So what I'm saying is, I'm done falling into that trap of thinking he (Reid) is going to magically create value when it may or may not be there. been there done that, been burnt far too often. I'd need more than 'Andy Reid will create opportunities for him' to get me to buy in- no matter who the player is we're talking about

It's kinda weird values too, 2nd rd pick outside of top 25... rookie RB that's only played a season at the position and blew up inferior competition (for the most part)

i guess the major factor to this trade isnt even the players or the picks... it is whether you have a spot available for Smith, and how many droppable players do you have over him...

if he is the first player you are going to drop, for whatever reason, then upgrade... if you have the luxury to wait and see with him, then keep him... remember this is not a trade for a draft pick... this is a trade to UPGRADE a low end pick for a slightly higher pick...

there is a big difference between Smith for a 2nd, than Smith and a third for a 2nd...

Future picks are always so tough. You never know when that projected playoff team loses their RB1 in CMAC and their #2 RB gets replaced early on by an unknown rookie (could be Singletary or R. White), or also goes down - Pacheco, and suddenly that playoff team is a middling, floundering team..meanwhile, that non-[layoff team might have a couple of their rooks pan out, an unknown comes out of nowhere to storm the league, or even worse, the player you traded them becomes a stud and all of sudden they make the playoffs. or--they do still suck, they're bottom 3-4 in scoring all year long, but due to the scheduling Gods, they somehow managed to accumulate wins and sneak in there.
Always just a total crap shoot.
