The 1976 team had John Madden, Kenny Stabler, Fred Biletnikoff, Cliff Branch, Dave Casper, etc.
The 1983 team had Tom Flores, Jim Plunkett, Marcus Allen, Lester Hayes, Howie Long, etc.
Not sure why the '76 picture is so much bigger than the '83 picture. Not intentional.

Remembering the 76 Raiders and how tough it was for my boys to beat the Oakland clubs of that era. True Madden only won one but look at the teams he played against.. Had it not been for the Steelers his teams could've easily reached the Super Bowl a few more times.
I have a lot of respect and admiration for that team. 76 was their year. I really believe it was their best team ever. The 72 squad had a lot going for them and the 3 teams that were powerhouses were chance that they made it, The immaculate reception is controversial for sure but Oakland early 70's teams were formidable. Proof of that was their turnaround the next year only to swap opponents with the Dolphins who in those 3 years were damn good but with the 3 teams anyone really has a chance ( hence the 72 game )
The 74 Raiders don't get the love the 76 team does because they didn't win the Super Bowl but again as the 3 top teams battled a Buzzsaw and emerging dynasty was in their way. I believe you could replace the Steelers as the dynasty of the 70's had Oaklnd won another Super Bowl or 2. Their teams especially this one were well coached and the Steelers main rival, that says a lot.

People say the Vikings team that came so close only to miss it on an Anderson kick was the best that didn't make it, I disagree, I think the 74 Raiders were the best team to not win the Super Bowl.
The early 70's produced some of the best rivalry and football I ever saw. Fortunately for me I can go back to my collection and watch these games again., I feared the Raiders as a Steeler fan and the 76 squad was a culmination of talent ,coaching and desire, I don't think the 80's Raiders even compare

I wish the Steelers could have played the 76’ Raiders at full strength…..Raiders were the only team that prevented the Steelers from a hat trick….great rivalry and great football in the 70’s

I posted that the Raiders of the 70's scared me each time. They stood in the way of a historic feat. Kudos to them and I guess they could say the same about the Steelers.
The 74 squad may have rivaled the 76 squad, which were just about the same team, we won one and lost one, shows how good the rivalry and teams were.
I think the 74 team was the best that didn't win it, God it was great football

Although that '74 Raiders team needed officiating (or should I say lack of officiating) as he trapped the ball on his touchdown catch branch 1.jpgto beat a beat-up Miami team.
