Anyone have some suggestions of bands they'd like to see go head to head in this? I want to post albums people care about.

Prince and not close. It was many months ago but in the NBA OT thread we had a discussion about music for quite a bit.

At the time I already knew Prince was an extremely gifted musician of many instruments, but I didn’t realize how far it stretched and how much credit and praise he received from other genius musicians.

@msgkings322 is a good guy to talk about this, he basically made me revisit and really appreciate how amazing Prince was.

I thought the question was what that better album was and not who the better musician was?
In this case it’s both and it’s not close. Prince is arguably the greatest popular musician in the last 50 years. They throw this term around a lot but he is literally a musical genius.

It’s Thriller. Anyone who was there in the 80’s knows how much this album completely DOMINATED the airwaves at the time. Purple Rain is fantastic, obviously(though the movie was lousy), but it’s not on the same level as Thriller. Thriller also gets bonus points for the best music video of all-time, as well.

Thriller is probably the album of the decade. I think personally I might actually like Bad more because Ive heard Thriller too much.

I'll abstain on this one.

I like Thriller a lot as well. Prince and MJ are both icons, but as far as music generally speaking I’ve always preferred instrumental aspects over vocals.

MJ was an amazing dancer and vocalist, but Prince and The Revolution I give the edge on instrumental merit alone, which is my preference.

Personal preference...Purple Rain...saw Prince in concert on the Purple Rain tour.

But Thriller is the top selling album of all time...that's pretty tough to beat.
