I agree, this is our main problem. It boils down to coaching and talent. I am thinking we need a minimum of 4 starters (ILB, CB, SS and DE)

I would like us to sign 3 in FA (CB, SS and DE) and draft 1 (ILB). The defense is killing us. I hate relying on FA but we simply have no choice at this point.

Defense first:

Resign: Orakpo to a smaller deal (one year, maybe?), Doughty (good SS, bad FS), Hall (2 year deal, max), Riley (2 year deal, max).

Let Merriweather, LFB, Wilson all go. Could even let Doughty go if he won't take what we're offering. Same with Riley. Play hardball with all players, including Orakpo.

Sign or draft: pass rusher, cb, true starting safety, 2 ILB's (or wait on Robinson and Jenkins and sign one ILB).

Change schemes so players actually play to their strengths: Orakpo never in coverage. Kerrigan rarely in coverage.

Sign Rob Jackson to play the run downs, shift inside on passing downs (Orakpo takes his spot on the end, Brandon Jenkins takes his spot as OLB.

Fire Haslett. Promote Morris? Or Hire somebody who has actually fielded at top 10 defense, ever.

If there's money left over, sign DL, Secondary, then LB corps in that order.

Offense:

Play the backups we drafted - are they good enough? How can we ever know? If not, that's THREE wasted draft picks.

Let Moss go. Let Morgan go. Let Fred Davis go. Anybody else a free agent?

Sign best interior Olineman possible in free agency. Develop SOMEBODY (Hurt, Gettis, Compton, Ribeye) at right tackle or right guard. How could NONE of those players be good enough to start?

Sign best big #2 wr. Must be big. I like Dannario Alexander off of the IR, assuming he's healthy. For starters, the Chargers don't need him. He'll also be cheap. He's huge. He's a good route runner. He's fast.

Take a look at the rest of the team: if everything else is falling into shape ("fixed" secondary, ILB) sign ANOTHER top flight olineman.

Tell Kyle Shanahan that his playcalling has been shitty, and that putting up stats in garbage time to ensure a "top ten" offense is unacceptable. Pull out all the stops next year: screens, bootlegs, misdirection, playaction, halfback option, wr option, reverses, etc.

Line, line, line. Both sides of the ball. Pass rush, there isn't one. If Kerrigan and Orakpo are the primary sack players then an average of half a sack a game for both is not enough. ... hopefully and off season will help Griffin heal completely and get the time to learn and progress this year. Time to replace Fletcher.
