Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain
Is he worth trading? If so, what do you think the Brewers would get for this juice box?
Shattering HR records, but not overall offense. Also, didn't realize this, the league has set the K-rate record every year for 9 consecutive years (and on their way this year for a 10th straight).cant think of many contending teams in the league that need offense
the league is shattering offensive records this season
Everyone will be chasing arms, that arent around

I'm going to switch gears completely just to point something out that I never noticed before.Bill Madden wrote a depressing article regarding the state of current day baseball
Yes, the strikeout rate is insane, and we are on pace for 6000 HR's this season
Also spoke about how a managers' job has been minimized by the fact that "When a pitcher gets to 100 pitches, or 6 innings, you take him out, anyone can do that"........The average amount of pitchers combined in a game 30 years ago was something like 4.8, and the average number in 2017 is 7.something, and its a number also increasing every season
Wow, that is fucking weird. My money is on the MLB just having an ump who was really picky about balks. Like if the NBA got a ref that actually called travelingI'm going to switch gears completely just to point something out that I never noticed before.
In 1988, there were 924 balks committed. The next highest is 407. What the hell happened that year?! I'll be researching, update to follow hopefully.

Update: They changed the wording in the rule for one year. It went from:
"The pitcher, following his stretch, must (a) hold the ball in both hands in front of his body and (b) come to a complete stop."
to
"The pitcher, following his stretch, must (a) hold the ball in both hands in front of his body, and (b) come to a single complete and discernible stop, with both feet on the ground."
They were testing out a rule to make it more uniform. I updated the original post. They broke the record for balks in a season 1/4 of the way through. And yet, curiously enough, from 1987-1988, offense dropped by more than half a run per game. One of the largest single season drops in offense ever.Wow, that is fucking weird. No they revisited the rule, and that's why there was an increase in balks. When you have 924 balks, I guess re-visiting the rule was a good idea

can he play 3rd base?

One thing that does need to change, the freaking pace of play. Red Sox are averaging 3:19 for their games. 40 years ago it was 2:38. Rant. Sorry.Bill Madden sounds like a whiney old fuck. Things change.
Though I will say, I've always been amazed at old-timers' seasons when they hit more HRs than they K'ed. Berra did it a few times, I know. I wouldn't mind seeing someone with that kind of approach today.
